  1. just because a company does "show cars" doesnt mean thier work is any better than some other, unkown companies. it just means , in my experience, they can charge you over the odds because they do/have done a load of cars that peeps are familiar with. looks like pf autos might go that way, popularity doesnt always equal quality imo. if its not done to your liking you can always take it back, but if you know the work and the guys there i say why the hell not!

  2. if you want to do the job by removing the door cards rather than fiddle behind a partially attached one its best to remove the rear seats altogether tbh, only a ten minute job in itself. you can then see the plastic plugs holding the remainder if the trim in place which unscrew and then you just pull the card away from the top!

  3. really good looking cab nick, always fancied one myself after having a couple of mk1 cabs. that was untill i went in my bro's mk3.5 the other week and found that, despite being much newer, the amount of scuttle shake with the roof down is still just as prominenet in even a standard car. cant imagine what it would be like on a vr lumped, lowered on 18's machine. always wanted to do one since seeing yours nick, but think i'd be disappointed in the road holding coming from a tintop variety, how do you find it?

  4. you can make your own heat shield , as i did, for the ram air for less than a tenner, and given that claire can get the ram air filters for like 50 tokens, the bmc is an expensive option over it. and if you dont fit the ram pipe to the bmc you will still end up sucking in warm air from the engine bay and when carbon warms up, tho it does take longer than an open filter design granted, it will produce as much if not more heat soak than a good open filter anyway. the ram design of the bmc when used with its cai pipework is slightly more effecient at speed due to the extra volocity of air it draws in, but is by no means a hands down winner if people consider cost verses effectiveness!

  5. tbh, a 1/4 mile is no real comparison to what some cars will or wont do. if you run a 500bhp 4wd nos'd monster then a lot of cars will fall under its wheels on a drag strip. afaic, a charged vr is not about a 1/4 mile race as its really only just getting going at the end of it. a 1.8t has a fair amount of low down torque as standard, and is easily tuneable to 250 with little outlay and knowledge. any more means more money and to achieve over 300 and keep it reliable on a day to day basis makes it more expensive still. having just bought a leon cupra i can say its a little jem for easily obtainable power and even with the standard 180bhp it will see off a lot of quicker "on paper" cars due to its close 6 speed box and the low down torque. it does not, however, have the same thrill and noise as the vr, but i reckon it would hold its own with all but a good tuned vr, and maybe even a lesser powered stage one charged vr. i will be giving both cars a side by side test very soon to compare!
