Will my VR6 pass it's MOT???

Recommended Posts

I think I have asked this before, but I can't remember where I posted it, if I did at all. Anyhoo, my Golf doesnt have a cat, I dont think it ever did, is this normal? It has passed all it's other MOT's, but I dunno if previous owners maybe knew a dodgey mechanic that would pass it. I know no dodgey people! Will it pass? I can imagine that it blows a serious hole in the ozone layer every time I put the boot down.

Apparently my exhaust needs cut. it doesnt have a space for a cat. Or whatever it would be. It's never had one. I dont really know much about this type of thing, but you couldn't just pop one on in a sunday afternoon.

Damn VR6anni. I know an MOT gut through my dad, but I dont like putting people in that postition. You selling your cat Mofo? think its about £150 for a new one!! This things costin me a fortune!

What year is your car?

I think it is 1993 onwards where it had to have a cat. There are some Vr's on a J plate which is very, very early 93 and get away with not using a cat.

Why not just let it go through an M.O.T and see if it fails? If it does thenfit a Cat. From the sounds of it you say the Exhuast needs to be cut as there is no room for a cat which makes me think it also never had one unless the exhaust has been changed from stock?

Mark.

93 (yn)

92 (y)

Or any in a MK2 chassis, as it goes by age of car, not age of engine.

absolutely - cars registered 1st jan 1993 onwards must have a cat to pass the mot..

if yours was first registered before this,as said above J or early K plate it will not need one .....
