Dekerf1996 27
On my 95 highline the ABS light cam on and the brakes had been feeling a bit spongy, then occasionally the kinda 'farted' through the system. So I thought they needed bleeding. So bleed the brakes at the weekend and they feel much better, the 'farting' hasn't return (yet) but the ABS light is still on, well coming on now, it only comes on intermittently..... So I am thinking I haven't bled the brakes properly/enough?? Does this sound right? Also what order am I supposed to bleed the brakes, I thought it was furthest away from the reservoir first then working closer? Thanks in advanceMark
Russ_vr6 12
the light flickering sounds like the brake pad warning wire has a break in it,v common mate, check where the wires go into the plug

Andy Mac 1
I have a similar problem, the ABS light is always one. I have just changed the rear pads, and the light has been on ever since, What could be the problem?
golf on 20s 1
abs sensor mate, theyre common on the mk3
Andy Mac 1
The ABS sensor has gone, or does it need something doing to it.
vr6madmike 0
You can get abs sensors for 10 quid from euro car parts very easy to fit, just need a vag com reading so you know which one is at fault.
mk3anni 0
If it was a pad sensor it wouldn't be the ABS light coming on it would be another light on the dash. Its probably, as others have said, a sensor, get it on VAG-COM, all will be revealed!!!!
VR6Rich 3
As mk3anni has said its not going to be the brake pad warning light as that is a different one to the ABS light. Will hopefully just be a sensor playing up, check the wiring and contacts for the one playing up (found through diagnostics like VAG-COM) and maybe give the contacts a clean.Ive had ABS problems on my VR since ive had it (nearly 4 years) and im starting to think its probably the ABS pump at fault now as the sensor has been replaced already but its only interrmitant so luckily never seems to be on for the MOT ;-)
Andy Mac 1
I am very new to the whole VR scene, how do I go about getting a VAG-COM reading. *-)
vr6madmike 0
A mobile auto electricain will probably be cheaper than VW, or if you have a lap top get yourself your own version from http://www.ross-tech.com/ and a cable from ebay thats the cheapest way!
