LPG VR6 Conversion? Good / Bad Idea?

I am currently considering getting an LPG conversion for my Vento VR6.

The kit that i have seen, uses a single inlet, that goes onto the throttle body via an adaptor.

I have been told that with single point injection, you get some power loss, as opposed to multi poing injection lpg conversions.

Just wondering whether anyone in here has had there VR6 converted to LPG, or knows of anyone who's converted a VR6 to LPG?

Unfortunately i dont. A friend of mine in Bolton, supplies and fits them. Im looking to spend about £600 with him (mates rates!), i think for a VR6, you would usually be looking at about £850+VAT (approx £1000).

This guy specialises in Rolling Road, LPG Conversions and Corrections.

I had my G40 rolling roaded, he also did a smoke compression test and cleaned my injectors (I know this i s beside the point).

But when i was there i had a chat with the owner, and he showed my his Mitsubishi EVO 8, that was running an LPG onversion. He said there was no loss of power etc, otherwise he wouldnt have done it to his EVO!

If i didnt have a mate that did it, i would be taking it here, as the owner knows his stuff.

There are other places, probably closer to home for you that do it, just have a look locally.

Thanks pal, I'll have a word with this fellow in Bolton. These conversions are certainly a lot cheaper than they used to be. I'm not hugely concerned about the performance reduction becasue I'd mainly use it for trundling along the motorway. Obviusly it would be better not to have any performance reduction at all though!

Had a word with the fellow in Bolton. He quoted £1350 including rolling road tune, which is roughly what I was expecting. This is for a single point gas injection. Basically theres a mixer that fits in the inlet tract just before the throttle body.

Anyway, going all the way back to the start of your thread - he says that some single point systems do produce a little less power than multipoint, but this is just becasue of the mixer causing a restriction in the air intake. Effectively making your throttle body smaller, is how I visualise it.

If the mixer is matched nicely there shouldn't be any reduction in performance. He had just fitted a multipoint system to a Golf V5 and that cost £1850, and might be slightly more economical.

Hi, my Vento is gas powered. You will loose significant power with a single point system as this is the early type. Mine is a sequential system and there is no noticeable difference between the power on gas and petrol. You do loose about 4 mg on gas although a signle point system will loose more.

My conversion cost £1600 but it has paid for itself already. If you do get a conversion you must have uprated plug leads or it will misfire on gas. I use Magnecor 8mm.

If he's quoting £1350 for single point my advice would be forget it and spend the extra! It's worth it every time you fill the tank for £20!

My buddy pauly had his fourmotion done by a firm in Bury St Edumds and its been with them mor than it has with him, he regrets getting it done , but I thin hes the exception to the rule, when it ran , it ran well and it made the car a cheap thing to run but now he just wants it back.
