  1. cheers, i definately want a remap, so i guess i should prob start saving now! Just waiting for the cylinder head to get skimmed and the head gasket and bolt set, then build it all back up! I think while half the engines out, ill get my brother to do the timing chain aswell! Anyone recently tackled a timing chain?
  2. I've finally managed to get enough money together to get my vento vr6 engine rebuilt. The engine went at 160k due to head gasket problem, so the block getting a lite rebore, new pistons rings, new pistons and robs, and it getting a reskimmed cylinder head thats covered 78k. Since this is costing me a small fortune (parts only - brothers sorting out the mechanics for f all!), im wondering whether its possible to remap the ecu to get some more power out of the engine? Its a 1992 K reg OBD 1 engine - thats 174 bhp standard, just wondering what sort of gains i could expect and rough cost, if anyon
  3. Sounds like the car is running in safe mode, so you wont get a very good mpg. Usually its something to do with the temp sensor, I know on my G40 Polo, removing the temp sensor and reving it 3 times above 3000rpm puts it in safe mode. I would try disconnecting temp sensor, rev it above 3k for a minut or two, switch off the engine connect sensor , restart engine and rev above 3k rpm 3 times, see if that takes it out of safe mode. I dont know if this will work, but i supppose its worth a try, ill have a proper look at my vr6 manual to see if anythings in there.
  4. i think my vr6 plans will have to go on hold for the minute, my f%$~ing bank, nat west kindly sent me a letter telling me to clear my overdraft! b"$%&^d's!
  5. unfortunately i cant afford forged pistons, firstly im skint and living in my overdraft and secondly my G40 Polo costs a fortune to run! Hopefully when the vento's back on the road i can rid of the G40, and spend it on the VR6!
  6. Originally the head gasket went on the engine, aswell as the crank bearings. On taking the block off, the piston rings where knackered, which has sort of scored the internals(nothing major). While the blocks off, id rather spend the money on it, so ill know its right, rather than buy a 2nd hand engine and have the same problem!
  7. Hello Forum, been away for a while, finally got my Electrical And Electronic Eng Degree! Now its time to sort out my vento! Anyway, im having then engine rebuilt at the moment, by my brother. Ive got a new cylinder head that had done about 75k miles, and im repairing my original block. Im having the head skimmed, and ive bought some new piston rings (£220) from a local eng firm. The Blocks getting a lite rebore so it can still house the 2.8 pistons. Ideally i would like to get a full rebore to 2.9 or 3.0, but funds are pretty dry at the minute! Ideally i would like to strap a supercharger to
  8. If your looking to get your charger serviced/rebuilt i would look towards germany. There are pitstop developments and jabba sport ion the uk. Ive heard bad things about jabba, dont really know pitstop, but both are quite pricey in comparison to RPM tuning and SLS in germany. An overhaul over there wopuld be about 500 Euro's possibly more, but works out cheaper overall. A standard charger should last about 30-40k miles before it needs an overhaul. Seals should prob be changed every 10k, and bearing every 20k, just as a rough guideline. My g-lader on my G40, hasnt been serviced, the cars done 10
  9. With regards to the engine, Its a 1992 Vento VR6. It had 160k on the clock, and the bottom end went, due to the head gasket not being done. Thats my main priority when i get some money in! I dont want to buy a 2nd hand engine because i could have the same problem, so im going to have head skimmed, Crank reground, new gaskets and bolts etc, so i know that the engines sound!
  10. I cant really splash out on a new exhaust, as the engines f&*ked, so the main priority is to get that sorted! There is a way of driving about so its not so noisy, just takes a little practice, usually involves driving about with very lite right foot! I just learnt the hard way - ie spend first ask questiosn later! You have to make your own mistakes before you can learn from it. Personally i would never put a sports exhaust on any car! My G40 polo is testament to that, it had sports exhaust & induction kit, as soon as i put it back to original, it was alot better!
  11. Before the engine went on my VR6, i had stainless steel catback exhaust system put on, mainly because the original system was on its way out! I spent £280 on a stainless steel catback system. I was told by the mechanic that the size of the back box would determine what sound it would make, ie: Small: Corsa/Saxo Boy Racer Sound Medium: Subtle rumble sound Large: Not very loud, but still a rumble I opted for the Medium back box! The garage put the medium back box on with a silencer, but it was stupidly loud, so they had to put another silencer on it! When my brother came to pick me up in th
  12. Sorry, i dont know what "iirc" means/stands for? If i was to get a 2.9 ABV Corrado cylinder head, and put it on my engine, would it be alrite, in that i will not have to mess around/modify anything? Or will it be straight forward, and i will not encounter any problems?
  13. Will the corrado 2.8 (ABV) cylinder head be a direct fitment/replacement for the 2.8 VR6 (AAA) head? Will i have to mess around with anything? Will all the holes/gasket fittings etc, line up with the bottom end of the engine? Im guessing that all the gaskets/bolts for the engine will be the same?
  14. Will a corrado VR6 2.9 cylinder head (ABV), go on a 1992 2.8 Vento VR6 (AAA)?
