Hi,

Couple of days ago i had a custom decat pipe fitted by Longlife and it now goes superbly !lol but at lower speeds when i accelerate it sounds as though it's pinking.

Is there anything i should do ? reset ECU, fit NEW Lambda sensor or do i need a remap.

Cheers

Gary

did they put a hole in the pipe for the lambda sensor? cos i had a custom cat made and came to it later to find they had removed the lambda and not bothered with the bloody threaded hole. mine was fitted to the cat originally, not sure about later cars though.

Yeah lambda is fitted although it could be faulty.

Will put it on Vagcom 2mrw hopefully.

Could it be noisy cam followers as they do rattle when a bit till the oil circulates and the straight through pipe is accentuating it, only get noise up to 3k revs, it's not bad but i know its there and it annoying me.

Tick over has been a bit lumpy lately.

Then it goes like fork and i cant hear above my devilish laughing :D

Cheers lads

Put in on VAGCOM and nowt showed up as wrong :(( and the Pinking seems to be getting worse pissing me right off now.

Had a look at the catbypass pipe and longlife have welded the boss square to the pipe whereas the original is at an angle with the sensor pointing in the direction of the exhaust flow. The welding around the boss is shite and blows through a small hole.

Does this matter ?? I need to know so i can go back to longlife and shout.

Please help guys as i'm not enjoying driving it at the mo it's worrying me.

I'd say this would have an affect yes, if the lambda sensor was at an angle in the original, then it's safe to say it was put like that as an aid to measuring the constituants of the exhaust more accurately (if the sensor was made to read better at said angle), and as it's related to sending calculations back to the ECU to keep the AFR correct, then i'd say to take it back and get them to reposition it.

Also, if there is a leak in the boss joint, the sensor could be reading additional oxygen, which would knock you're fuelling out anyway.

Hope this helps

Mines 1995 OBD1 although it's got all the OBD2 bits which confuse everybody.

The functions seem limited on VAGCOM for OBD1 haven't seen owt about monitoring knock sensore

Thats because you have to know where to look for it!!

I didn't know about it until Vince told me where to find it.

If you want a hand PM me and i'll try and talk you through it.

Cheers everyone. Out of desperation i disconnected the battery this afternoon and left it a while. PINKING has gone obviously the ECU hadn't been reset.

But it doesn't seem to go anywhere near as good as it did when it was sounding shite. I'm gutted again but hopefully with a bit of driving it may sort itself out ???
