dellert 0
Having recently had troubles with my Engine leaking water i have inspected it regularly to make sure it stays full. Anyway I flushed it all out with running water till it came out clear, and filled with antifreeze 50/50 but now about a hundred miles later it is back to its usual nasty brown colour. Any ideas? Is it just self cleaning and in need of another system flush, or am I mising something? :? Thanks for any help.
SankysVR6 1
It depends on what antifreeze has been used as if it wasn't the OEM G12 then the internals might have rusted. You will probably have to keep flushing till clear and refill. Might take a few flushes till it comes clear again
dellert 0
Thats what I thought. The chap who owned it before me got it with FVWSH, but then he had it for 2/3 years and by the looks of things it probably never even had the bonnet up!
shail 0
Its a total nightmare. I've given up flushing mine. It just goes brown after every flush. Having looked at the inside of the coolant hoses, they are caked in brown solid deposits.
dellert 0
Inside the hoses dont seem too bad, other thing was the stat was running it a bit cool, bout 70C, now its got a genuine 90C stat in. Guess with the heat and clean antifreeze it is just slowly cleaning itself.
RIX 0
dellert if it´s a 90c termostat, you have then bought the wrong one cause vr6 one is 80c.all other vw are 90c but the vr6 is speciel.u will risk running hot when it´s summer.ps. 90c on the instrument is not the same as termostat being 90c. dellert 0
Well, not sure about stat got it from Stealers with new housing, but it is 90 on display, wheras old one i think was jammed open as it was about70 in summer and barely that all winter. But yes you are probably right about the difference between actual temp and dispaly.
SankysVR6 1
are you sure you didn't have low temp thermosat fitted, as these open at 70c.
dellert 0
it may have been, but it had vw stamp on it. thought low twemp stats were non genuine??
