dubloke 4
has anyone any experience of doing the rear beam bushes themselves? mine need doing i believe now and i already have the bushes just need to know how easy it would be to do at home verses a garage fitment. if its not worth my while i wont attempt it, i know i need a bias valve(early cars only) so i'll be having to bleed the brakes at the same time, and i realise i need to press the bushes into the beam, just wondering if its a possible job at home or best left to the garage? richievr 1
don't bother - get a garage to do it...they are an absolute nightmare to do yourself...
dubloke 4
is that talking from experience of having a go or just what you have come to find? not adverse to getting stuck in, but if its gonna be less time consuming and effortless to get it done elsewhere then so be it! RIX 0
my mate did them once, with the help off af mekanic they had a lift, and a press for help 5-6 hours later they where finished.so it´s not easy but can be done if you have time too do it,and don´t use the car every day. dubloke 4
so, does the beam have to be removed from the car to fit the bushes, or can it stay in situ?
VR6_Absy 0
I did mine ok it does take a while and you get dirty lol all part of the fun.You need to take the beam off. I had to hammer and cut the originals out but it wasn't that difficult. If your fitting poly bushes they just slide in.
gernsteine 0
How are the poly (powerflex?) bushes different so that they can just slide in, where the VW ones are a pain to get in and ideally require a tool?I want to change mine as there is a little sideways movement. If i bought the poly bushes what would i need to do to fit em?
cadguy77 0
i've brought the 4 front wishbone and 2 rear beam bushes. got a great deal from claire (VDUBGIRL).Spoke to a few people about doing it myself, and the consensus is to leave it to the pros unless you have the right tools and a lot of time to spare. 6hrs min for the lot i've been quoted by the phirm. gernsteine 0
Reason i'm asking is that i've bought a koni adj. sport suspension kit which i'm going to fit (myself) on friday, i thought i'd be a good time to do the bushes (if poly = easy) too...
cadguy77 0
putting new poly's in is not the hard part, it's getting the old ones out which is a PITA
