Suspension Question

With the Mk3 Golf VR6, R plate, '97 model, does anyone know the size or part number of the spring retaining plate on the top of the front shocks. Mine seem too small to hold the new H&R springs on.

Can anyone help, please

Fitted it all and took it for a test drive. F*cked up the front near side one as it seems to have dropped inside the spring; whooops x)

No, H&R only do one set of sport springs for the VR6; its the same part number for cars from 91-97 and there the ones I have have.

However, part no on the spring plate I have is 357 412 341A and checking H&R site, they say use 1HO-412-341 for cars after 7/94. Is there a difference between the two part no's? As I have the later car, I believed I had the bigger plates, but am I wrong?

thinking about it, the plates may have been replaced in a service at some point in the cars life or while suspension struts were being replaced maybe. also, maybe the plates from the earlier model ar the bigger plate, not the later. never checked on mine as i jus rammed some coilovers in there, lol.

Had exactly the same problem over the weekend m8, fitted rear springs/shocks no problem, front ones the spring is too large for the plate. Now I'm stuck with half a kit that I need swapping, is it just the plate thats different...anyone? Will get some later plates if they will fit rather than stripping all springs and returning them. These were Eibachs by the way.

Glad I wasn't the only one who screwed up then lol! Spent all that time in the sun as well; it would have been nice if the shop who sold me the springs had notified me. Unfortunately, I didn't know until the shocks were apart! Three of my standard shocks were knackered. You pressed the piston down by hand, and it didn't rise!!!

Andy, Eibach do quote the need for larger plates for cars after July '94 I think. Have ordered some from VW = will post the results Tuesday/Wednesday

Mines sorted, put the new larger top caps on today and the car is peachy. Camber adjustment happening Saturday so won't be driving it until then :(
