acf8181 0
any tips, or advice that i need to know in advance?am i right in sayig the sump gets in the way of one of the bolts? so i'll either need to remove it (and thus need new gasket), or shall i change the gearbox mount, seeing as its a bit worn (but it'll have to be with a gsf one, camn't afford any other)? kilokilla 0
yes sump gets in way but i did mine recently and wot i did was undo rear driver side engine mount then put solid piece of wood on trolley jack thenlift sump and engine out ov way, just have to do it slowly and carefully, works a treat. acf8181 0
think i may just change the mount at the same time. have to be a gsf or ecp one tho, unless vw don't charge any more, which is doubtful!one q, which bolts should i undo at the hub side of the wishbone, the two smaller ones (no.4) or the big one on top of the ball joint (no. 10)? kilokilla 0
Theres actually 3 smaller ones i ended up undoing these because i didnt have a decent ball joint splitter and at the mo still have crappy old ball joints on but i am getting sorted soon i would advise that you get good ball joint splitter to do job and just undo the 1 ball joint nut as you really want to replace the ball joint aswell. acf8181 0
well, we got the ball joints separated, but they were old, and the rubber was damaged on one of them so i've decided to get new ones.bushes are now in the wishbones, just gotta get the ball joints from vw.also, found out that my wishbones are still the original ones that came with the car...they have a date printed on them...so at least i know the car hasn't been wacked against anything hard in its life.[ Edited Fri May 14 2004, 03:22PM ]

kilokilla 0
Get rear bush to slide in first then push front in they take some force but they will go then get them two bush bolts in then ball joint in its just a matter ov persistence and brute force really i also found it helped a little to stick pole in rear bush mounting area and open it just a fraction the bolt will pull it tight back on bush when you do it back up .
