six appeal 53
Hello mate, cheers for the comments. Mine is a standard highline bodywork wise, ie. colour coded bumpers and side mouldings and no plastic arches. I have had to have the arches rolled and pulled a little to accomodate the rims and the lowness, but other than that its nice and simple as VW intended it. I even had the original grille back on for Inters as everyone seems to be running Kamei's or De-badged ones now, so thought the original one back on was a bit different!I know a few people on here have done what your planning so they may know more about whats involved. ( Think Macca's one of them?)
Geastb 0
Cheers - i hope he reads this too then! Mines a 5 door so wouldn't be quite the same as yours!
Guest Olly_K
basically, drill the rivets off the arches, change the side moulding strips to the later model (96>) (they cost 200 quid from vw!!!) then, colour code your bumpers and your there. thats what im gonna do anyhow
Geastb 0
Whats different about the side mouldings? Is there anywhere that you can get them cheaper?
antera309 3
I looked into this conversion too.The later side mouldings are smooth and primered ready for painting in body colour. The earlier ones are black stippled plastic, which cannot be painted without a LOT of preparation work.Conversion cost is pretty high. £180+VAT at Euro Car parts for the lot:LHR Door 844440940 £28.90RHR Door 844440950 £39.51LHF Door 843444210 £52.58RHF Door 843444220 £43.10LH Wing 842440830 £8.61RH Wing 842440840 £8.61http://www.eurocarparts.comAdd about £40-£50 for painting.Obviously, getting the parts from a scrappy would work out cheaper, even though the painting cost might be a little higher (correcting scratches etc)To complete the look, you'd need to have the tops of your bumpers smoothed and colour coded too (assuming you're using stock bumpers). Expect to pay a minimum of £100 per bumper to get this done properly, but you will end up with nice shiny, scratch-free, resrayed bumpers.Does anyone know what other Golf/Vento models (other than the VR6) had body colour bumpers and side mouldings? I know all GTIs have the black ones.[ Edited Thu May 13 2004, 08:53AM ][ Edited Thu May 13 2004, 08:53AM ]
