SankysVR6 1
I had the car booked in the garage to replace the outer CV Boot, thinking it wouldn't be more then a couple of hours for the work i left the car with them.I then get a phone call couple of hours later saying they can't do it today as the drive shaft is seized in with hub ~ . And i'll need to get a new CV Joint and a New wheel bearing.Should the drive shaft just pop out once the hub nut has been removed and a few other bits. Or is there a circlip some where in there that needs to be removed
28v6r 0
Not necessarily.... It could be just full of road grim and IS siezed into the hub, been there done this.. it take a brave man to whack it out of the hub, best way to do this is use a press and gently push the CV joint out from the hub side...Been there done this..my car was laid up for 6 months and the Driverside CV joint had siezed into position with RUST!!! I ended up getting a new shaft, CV joint and Hub... ~ !shy
jb9999 0
In theory , once the nut is off, it should come apart but like has been said years of muck and rust can have an effect. Plus the torque on these nuts is very high,I have had to put a piece of scaffolding tube onto the powerbar and jump up and down on it in the past to loosen them (not kidding), so the driveshaft is going to be very tight in the hub. SankysVR6 1
Would the dealers have special tools to take out the drive shaft from hub, and should i take it there for the work instead
jb9999 0
The dealers will probably have a press to push the driveshaft out, but I would have thought any decent garage would have one as you need one to push new wheel bearings into the hub. Failing that a vice, a big hammer and a piece of wood normally does the trick.Lol.
Justicevr6 0
To replace the CV boot you do not need to take the CV joint out of the hub you only need to release the bottom joint and steering/track rod end and brake caliper, you can then tap the shaft out of the joint, I have done it loads of time when only the cv boot needed chanching.Sometimes it has needed 2 people to do it when the shaft is well fixed.
