amit 0
its approaching 68, but i know with the mileage i do travelling to work back and forward ill be on 70 in no time. Its totally standard 1996 highliner. Any advise on what to look out for or inspect for the next service. Ive been told the timing chain and poly v belts need an inspection. Also can anyone tell me of vw tunning places in middlesex that will carryout tranmission conversions. My auto is needs a life support machine and im considering a 5sp manual w/lsd. acf8181 0
well, to make it last for silly miles i'd say start changin the oil every 5k with synta silver every time. and just get it serviced every 10k.timing chain will be fine forever (does stretch tho), tensioners do need replacing, but thats usually around 100k, which requires the 'box out..so may as well do chain, as well as all tensioners and runners, then. VR6Pete 1,455
my head gasket went at 74k it just depends on how well it's been looked after:)
acf8181 0
just read the last bit of your post...it is possible, but it'll cost you...if you do get it converted to manual, i would get the tiing chain/tensioners/runners done then to save on labour costs later.
amit 0
forgive for asking a daft question but what is a head gasket and what purpose does it serve.
acf8181 0
its basically the seal between the head (bit with the camshafts and all the valves), and the block (bit with pistons and crankshaft). also keeps the oil and water seaparate as well.
Eat this 2
amit uv got my car lol ps do vrs hav lsd as standard?
acf8181 0
no, but they have EDL (which is sort of like a cross between a primitive lsd and traction control, but only works upto about 30mph).get an ATB (torque biasing diff) instead of an LSD tho, its better.
