hi all, i went to 'a wheel shop' 2 days ago, they angle grinded some of the excess metal from my front calipers to get more clearance for some rims.

it was derizzly rain on the way home and dark, i saw in the morning the metal dust from the grinding was all over the front wings and as it was dust it had turned to rust.

i washed the car but i can still feel a gritty residue on the wings, how can i get rid of it?

i'm a little worried about polishing it as i fear it will lift off ,get caught in the cloth and turn the cloth into sand paper :(

any thoughts?

cheers adam

Did you notice any it been grity prior to the calipers been shaven down. I ask as it could have been there before due to chemical fall out or overspray. And you might just be noticing ot more because you've seen the dust from the calipers.

Can you pick the specs off with your nail.

Try giving the car a good wash with a bit extra shampoo the normal. and then try claying it, if it hasen't been done before it will be smooth as glass.

sounds like minute particals of moulton metal have fallen/sprayed up on your wings from the grinding!! er if it is metal then when it landed still hot it will have burnt throught the laquer! as sanky says give it a good wash and clay bar it see if it smooths out, if not "A WHEEL SHOP" ;) might owe you a couple of wings painted! or cheap alloys! why dont people at garages use wing guards? they are cheap as fuck and every mechanic has some but they just hang on their toolbox`s coz they got "snap on" written on!

good rub with a shammy! what a c**t :o , if its burnt into your paint nothing short of wet and dry will get it out! clay bar (at their expense!) may begin to rectify it? if not they are responsible! i had a simmilar experience with a guy cutting a kerb stone near my rallye golf, i informed him, in some well chosen anglo saxon phrases, he should desist his work while i was at the traffic lights, or he would be experiencing some unusual sensations around his mouth area! bits of moulten concrete flying up the bumper of my rallye!!!!! ~:( not happy but lucky no damage. !shy

well, chose the wheels DZ1's, backs went on ok, fronts were rubbing on calipers and also needed spacers, then after they had ground the calipers i decided i didn't like them anymore !amazed

so i didn't get them!!!

but at least the calipers are done if i get an issue with a set i DO like lol

so i'm still looking for 'the' set ;)
