fuel pump noise (possible problems?)

Recommended Posts

Usually the pump "Hisses" when its working fine, not loud mind, but a light hiss, if its now buzzing, then yes, the pump is on its way out. Hopefully its not located in the tank but outside or in front of the subframe, otherwise make sure that when you decide to replace it that the tank is near empty!! The last three times I've done a tank pump I've been caught out with the tank nearly full or is full!!!!!!!!!! Arrrrgghhhh!!!!!!! ~:( %-6

i wouldnt worry about it mate my the pump on mine has a loud buzzing when standing at the back or side for the last 4 years lol ,i was worried about it way back asked a few specialists who confirmed some older pumps are noisy ,checked my fuel pressure and it was spot on,try to forget it, if it is faulty it soon let you know ,if your cars running ok best to leave it alone.

if you get someone to turn the ignition on (but not the engine) you will be able to hear the pump engage(a quiet buzz), which will mean the pump is working ok and obviousely the noise will remain otherwise it would stop pumping fuel.

i would leave it alone unless you get running problems like a fuel starvation or something ;)
