Guest Quickshift
I know this is a sign of the headgasket going but what are the other possibilities? I have a 96 Highline with under 100K on the clock. What checks can you have done to determine what the exact cause is?
binliner 0
that could just be condensation are there any other problems with the car?
Guest Quickshift
THe thing is, this is the first Vr I have owned and I have had it less than a week! Everything seems ok so far,(no overheating as of yet) but obviously don't want to leave it too long if there is a problem. I drive it to and from work, half hour there, half hour back everyday and every night when I get home there is residue on the cap, not a lot but some. Seems a bit sluggish under 3.5k but as it's my first VR not sure if this is normal??
Seademon 0
get a compression test done to make sure the headgasket is ok - if you do short journeys you will see a bit of mayo but 30 mins should be ok but if the cold weather probably doesnt help - most VR's are a bit sluggish under 3.5k rpm especiallty if you have a inducition kit fitted as it'll just be taking in heat and soak up the power
Guest Quickshift
Cheers mate. Got my fingers crossed hoping it's the cold weather but somehow I don't think it is!! What the cost for headgasket being done on a VR, G&S do the set for around
Seademon 0
Not really too sure - your looking at about
francisjonno 2
If the car isn't used much or only for very short journeys (not getting up to full running temp) you can get a bit of mayo. When I first got mine and only did short journey's I had this problem. Now it does longer journeys and gets up to temp = no problem!Hope it's the same in your case
SankysVR6 1
If i was you i would have the oil changed first of all. Then take the car for a good blast on the motor way and try to drive it a constant 70mph. and then when you get home check the oil cap for any mayo. Guest Quickshift
THe guy who had it before me hardly used it so it was sat on the drive most of the time so I suppose an oil change is a good idea. I'll try it over the weekend. I just need to cover other possibilities before I take it to a garage cos they will prob just say it's the gasket anyhows.
stockers 1
i get the same, i had a compression test done and came back fine, i have been told by alot of mechanics the vr6 lump is quite a 'wet' engine and is prone to condensation but get a compression test done to put your mind at ease. Nerih 0
since its so cold, i usually have some condensation on the inside of my oil cap in the morning, so its probably that, but if your worried, go check it out.
