matth76 1
HiI've read in the handbook anti-freeze with the specification TL-VW 774 C should be added. However I have just gone into Halfords and there are a few sorts but all say compatible with VW TL 774 D ... not C. Is this ok to use?? Is it a more modern sort? I have just bought some Mobil antifreeze with with TL 774D specification - I thought before I use it I'd check on here to see if it's ok to use. Thanks for any help.CheersMatt
VRmonster 1
if were on about what to add to the coolant. use g12+ as that is a coolant/antifreeze mix. so you souldnt need to add anything else.
matth76 1
I'm afraid I don't have that but have Mobil TL 774D. Can anyone confirm if this is alright to use?

However the handbook say to use G11 A8C. Is G12 suitable?
fritzenberg 3
you`ll get G12 off vw dealer.older vr`s had G11(BLUE) in them, later 1`s G12(RED).i got my old G11 flushed out and replaced with G12 as it`s a lot better(helps prevent corrosion in the block)
matth76 1
Ok... I think I'm going to get some of the ready mix G12 then this week from vw... I've just checked my antifreeze level and the level now seems fine... although it is dead on minimum so needs topping up but for some reason was looking quite a bit lower yesterday... but it was much colder yesterday. How much is G12 from vw and to confirm I don't need to mix it with water etc? My current antifreeze in my car is a pink colour. Is this likely to be G12?
ukdub 0
Just bought some g12+ from vw. It cost
stockers 1
i thought you still had to do a 60% distilled water to 40% g12....?

stockers 1
its recommended as there are corrosive elements in tap water
matth76 1
So G12 isn't ready mixed with water?
stockers 1
well thats what has got me confused, i thought it was neat and had to be mixed with water, when i got mine from vw when i was doing a complete drain and refill they said 2 bottles would be sufficiant, it was when mixed to a 60/40 ratio with water, if i used it neat i'd have needed about 8 bottles !mistrust
matth76 1
Interesting... I'll find out from VW tomorrow if it has to be diluted with distilled water or whether it is already ready mixed.
shail 0
Its neat, so requires dilution. Dont buy G12 as it doesnt mix with G11 (blue). make sure you get G12+, which is safe to mix with G11 & G12. In fact i dont think dealers sell G12 anymore, only G12+. Try gsf car parts - thats where i got mine from.
