Milltek full exhaust system - what difference will it make to my car?

Recommended Posts

Hi. On Saturday I'm going to Stealth Racing to get them to fit a Milltek cat-back exhaust to my Golf vr6 and do a rolling road session. Who else has had a Milltek fitted by them? Did they fit it neatly to your car (so the tailpipe looks horizontal/level and tight underneath the rear bumper)? Will it make my car sound vastly different to standard? I know it is more of a subtle exhaust which is what I'm after rather than "in your face". However I would like it to sound nice and loudish when the engine is revved. How loud is a Milltek when you rev the engine?

Under acceleration is it noticably louder and audiable to other road users in other cars? I know on idle it will be hardly noticable at all - I'm really curious what it will

sound like at high revs (i.e above 3-4k revs). Ideally I want it to be subtle at low revs but much louder than standard when accelerating. Will I find my car much more responsive or will it not be that noticable? (I know it won't actually add any increase in power at all... perhaps a couple of bhp... but wondered what the 'responsiveness' would be like after fitting the exhaust)

Also, is Stealth easy to find? I'm staying in Rugby with my gf and on the map it looks fairly close. While I wait for them to do my car is the town/village centre easily within walking distance? (My gf doesn't like the idea of waiting around in the garage)

Thanks,

Matt

I was at Stealth last week, i was asking Vince about the Milltek and he said they had put the prices up. You might find some prices on websites may be out of date. To get to the shops in Southam, turn right onto the main road and cross over, head towards the r/bout and turn left. There is a sign saying 'Southam Local something...' pointing to a right turn across the road. Follow that road past the houses and you will end up at the shops. There isnt much there, by the time you walk there and back the car will probably be ready. I would be interested to see what you think of it afterwards as i would like to get a Milltek as well.

Glad I bought mine when I did then! Quality exhaust - the construction looks very strong and I would expect it to outlast the rest of the car! Nice noise too - not too loud, and the tailpipes look great.

No sure what the power increase is - probably quite modest seeing as the cat exerts much more backpressure than the exhaust anyway. Ditch the cat and you can see an extra 20BHP.

Hi guys well I finally got my milltek cat back system fitted and milltek high flow cat. Also had my car rolling roaded... all at Stealth. The price I paid for it all was pretty scary although the cat was the same price as the exhaust so I had budgeted for it. The rolling road test was

Vince told me the same about the cold air inlet not making much difference. My car has aircon so i don't think i could have one anyway (cold air inlet). If you haven't got aircon you could get some lower bumper intakes and duct some air up to the filter, wouldn't hurt imo. My old Clio 16v did suffer a bit when it got really hot under the bonnet, the filter was fixed straight onto the throttle body next to the engine with no shield. It did sound like a race car with no cat and the magnex though :)

I've got a BMC on with cold air feed and previously had a RamAIR without a feed, I think the cold air feed is critical personally, you are just sucking in hot air without one and will completely lose any benefit of a better filter. My Ramair felt stifled and the car felt so much better when I returned to the original filter in the original box with the original air feed. The BMC is worlds apart from other filters in my opinion. I don't personally think you will spot the difference that a cold air feed makes whilst on a rolling road, the bonnet is usually up so the engine can draw in cool air anyway. When you think how different a car feels on a cool day to a hot day, that's the kind of deifference you notice every day when you have a cold air feed fitted.
