Col_M 0
Hi, recently i've been noticing that i'm smelling my clutch a fair bit when pulling away, or turning in the road, parking etc. I wouldn't say that i'm heavy on it, neither do i give it lots of revs, is this a sign that it's on it's way out? badboyV6 4
does it slip at all when boooting it? Whats the mileage of your VR m8, and has the clutch ever been replaced to your knowldege? Could be the thrust bearing giving up....
jayvwvr6 0
i had a new clutch done when i had my chains done about 10 months ago and i get the same thing so i wouldnt say your clutch is going mate.
Col_M 0
Well i don't know if it slips when i boot it, how would i know? smelling when i put my foot down? It's done 101k miles and as far as i know it hasn't had a new clutch.edit. if it was slipping i'm not sure if i'd know because i've only had it a couple months and don't do many miles, so it could have been slipping when i bought it, not having driven a VR before i bought mine i'm not used to what others feel like
seadog 0
drive along at a slow speed in 5th gear and put ur foot down, if it revs way quicker than ur sped goes up its slipping!

Col_M 0
well after a few tries of whacking it into 5th and giving it welly, nothing not even a smidge of extra revs, doesn't feel like i'm losing power either.
Nerih 0
are you sure its clutch smell and not burning oil? remember take the bacon and eggs off of the manifold before driving.
Col_M 0
i was thinking that last night, i'll have a look around later because it wasn't just smelling after pulling away, hmmmm :?
Nerih 0
check the pipes that run over the exhaust manifold and see if there is any sign of leakage or cracking...well known problem.
badboyV6 4
might be brakes- could be rear calipers not releasing properly- especially as you say its not used much. Its really hard to diagnose something like that without seeing the car
Nerih 0
would smell rear calipers in the car tho?
Ciaran 4
id say it's the smell of your breaks mate mine does similar and they both smell about the same.
