Bealieboy 1,625
Defo bv head, not sure wether ported and flowed. Original work on head was possibly by schrick too. It was a major piece of kit back in its day, even has nothelle badges on the shocks so they really went to town on it, hence £10k above cost of a standard vr from new! Bealieboy 1,625
Car is back home, next visit on 20th next month.
Mk3highline 287
No news then????? Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
No news then?????Its having a full service next visit and tim is going to go through all the vacuum hoses etc to make sure they're all ok, remove the lpg system which should never have been fitted and perform a leak down test. I'll also be praying to anyone that'll listen that the work done this visit will increase the compression on the cylinder that's been bore washing. Then probs the 3rd visit will be a strip down and rebuild of the engine as required! Mk3highline
Mk3highline 287
Is there a point doing the full service if it will might be having a strip down? I'm guessing they will do the leak down test first Also has it got a standard manifold or a 6branch??Cheers Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
Really odd, it's got a standard exh. manifold?! The head is definitely bv ported and flowed plus cams by schrick. As you say, he'll probs do the leak down first. He was keen to get a new set of plugs in though?! He said, it's not dreadful, hence the service I suppose?!
Mk3highline 287
The manifolds are probably port matched with the head maybe??Plugs are ok it's oil I ment But if the oil is too thin that Will make a difference A full set of pistons etc can't be that much can they? LolHopefully you get away with a hone and new rings Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
New Pistons at circa £200 a set and labour the same! Just typical vr costs really! To be fair tim'll only replace what needs replacing. It was only rebuilt 30k miles ago. Edited May 31, 2015 by Bealieboy Mk3highline and D11PS
Mk3highline 287
Oh yeah typical vr costs lol Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
The Nothelle has landed back with the phirm today for the first proper remedial visit. This is going to determine what I do with the car in the near future. I'm having a wobble with it again and am considering passing it on as two mk3's is a bit much...., in hindsight and I've still got a bit more spending to do on the green goddess! Mk3highline 287
Get rid of the greeny lolGood luck with the outcome, the rusty black is off to stealth today and hopefully get rid of the faults Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
Well, the verdict is....... Soon to be breaking for spares on recommendation from Tim at the phirm. It's not that the car isn't repairable, it's the 52 weekends work I'd have to do to pay for it!
bennyk 1,238
Be ok if you had somewhere decent to store it for a few years, until it was maybe worth something........ and you've won the lottery! Bealieboy and D11PS
