Mk4 rears. Much lighter and won't sieze anywhere near as much if ever. Bolts straight onto your mk3 carriers and discs but your better off buying the goodridge hose conversion (other brake hose manufacturers are available)

Not much need for massive discs on the rear as there isn't much weight in the back of a golf.

I will be sorting my rear discs and calipers as they are looking a bit tired, not looked into it too much ATM as it's further down in the to do list, but reading this is interesting, so mk4 rear calipers will bolt straight on without having to buy or change anything else (apart from the hoses which I was going to do any way) so what's the difference between the two, as I was clean and paint the calipers and put new discs and pads on

Apparently the difference is the mk4 is Ali where as the mk3 is steel and the mk4 is not prone to seizing . I have read somewhere about a conversion using bigger discs on the rear BUT as the mk3 uses a taper bearing on the rear I don't fully understand how they work it

This, if you want a lesson in how little the rear brakes do, next time it is wet, unplug your abs and go for a drive, you can swap ends real easy.

I should elaborate, if youre obd2 the abs sorts out the rear proportioning, disabling this makes the rears lock immensely easily, this is because the rears do hardly a thing.

See I thought about converting the rear myself to run different hubs .. I even looked at using a mk4 rear frame .. U ever ran the polo stubs mike? Is there much of a size difference in the mk4 discs compared to the mk3? I was just gonna what you said , mk4 caliper, drilled n grooved disc n braided hose .. Wanna get something sorted soon

Just a quick question as didn't want to start a new thread

My rear calipers are shot so which mk4 calipers do I need and how about bolts and hand break cable?

Do I still use the mk3 rear discs and pads?

Best place to get new calipers? Vw/tps?

I'm get black diamond to do me all 6 braided brake hoses to fit

Some new brake fluid 5.1 or rbf600 stuff?

Is there anything els

Mk4 gti callipers will be a direct fit with mk3 carriers ,discs and pads ,handbrake cable also fits in the same way as original ,,only thing that changes is that the hose connections are banjo type ,goodridge do a conversion hose for this ...very simple job
