Specs are 2.8 vr62 owners2 keys!!!all electrics work perfectly1 speck of rust bubbling on the tailgate and not a stitch anywhere else95,000 miles with a full service history Boring bits over heres a bit of photo viewing for the engine bay work ive been doing this afternoon....... after my cleaning effort and my new wheels, all centre capped up and cleaned/protected added some clear repeaters to replace the skanky old ones Thats it for now, 3 hours work gone in and yes i know it needs a clean, but tomorrow i will be mostly clay barring and then covering for a couple of days before the machine polish comes out. Products used on the bay were, some gunk, autoglym bumper restorer for the plastics, some wire wool and autosol for the metallic bits until i get chance to polish them up and a toothbrush for the hard to reach areas. Been playing with this also for the last 2 days in readyness for fitting, bit more sanding and polishing to do. Im off for a beer!!! Going to add some britemax easy cut and final finish to it tomorrow to see if i can bring it on further Link to post Share on other sites
jamesw6810 80 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Todays efforts, fully clay barred and wheels finished using some wonder wheels which i find an excellent product for shifting burnt on brake dust and tar, followed by some autoglym alloy wheel sealent. These are before the clay and just a pre wash post clay..... and wheels de tarred and sealed Thats it for now, wheels hopefully on next week and some time to find to machine polish. Car cover on and sleep for a few days now. actually fits the mk3 well and seems soft enough and waterproof (chucked a bucket of water over it)Halfords medium advanced cover for reference, figured the tools are top notch so this could be aswell Edited February 20, 2014 by jamesw6810 VR6Pete 1 Link to post Share on other sites

jamesw6810 80 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 20, 2014 it is harsh, but they were sat in a mercedes scrappy for a while so were a little neglected....iron x is for iron deposits really and is as harsh for continued use, and it bloody stinks! now they are cleaned polished and sealed the dust will just fall off with water, did the insodes of the rim also so again will just wash off. jamesw6810 80 Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) 2 hours done today, best leave it the weekend or the wife will be getting grumpy Wheels off onto 4 axle stands and had a go at the arches on passenger side, all metal bits wire wooled down to remove the protruding rust ready for some hammerite treatment.Pressure washed down then coated in gunk, brushed to a froth then pressure washed again. before i started and after not too bad, bit left to do with the hammerite and do something with the struts.....any suggestions? bennyk 1,238 Posted February 21, 2014 Report Share Posted February 21, 2014 Yeah can't see why that wouldn't work, if you want to try and hold the rust back a bit longer it might be worth treating with something like jenolite first, used it on a few things and it works really well. jamesw6810 80 Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 21, 2014 was thinking of getting hold of some bilt hamber stuff for the rust, dont want to smoothe it too much or the hammerite wont cure properly, the struts are never going to be as new, but they do look poor at the minute so maybe just a refresh rather than a refurb as such. jamesw6810 80 Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 Right, got my set of 5x100/5x112 adaptors here today, good news is that the oem golf bolts fit through the merc alloys as an m14 and sit flush with the mounting face of the adapter......so no chopping or new bolts needed:) just waiting for 2 tyres to arrive today and hopefully they should be on today....IF they fit. Marneus 78 Posted February 27, 2014 Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 I'm not into the whole "Stance" thing either as I like to drive my car but I do like there to be no more than 20mm from the top of the tyre to the arch as it just looks perfect.
