Surreyvr6 199
Been struggling getting the rear shock bolt that holds the bottom of the shock in place stuck, have tried penetrating oil, breaker, heat and it won't budge and I'm not far off rounding the bolt out. Want to take the grinder to the head but I'm just wondering if that will cause more problems as the nut is concealed, so how would I get the bolt out? CALICO 130
OXY ACETYLENE cut the nut off the inner end
andymk312v 15
Heat the nut from inside the Axle.Should break away.
Surreyvr6 199
My motors sorn on my drive and don't have oxy, bolts too rounded now due to me being being annoyed and getting a lump hammer on an old spanner, I do create work for myself lol. Think the only way is going to grind the head off the bolt and try to punch the bolt through or hacksaw the bolt either side of the bottom of the shock Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CALICO 130
I would hacksaw just the nut off that way you have something to pull it out with.
andymk312v 15
That's going to be some stress. You will have to cut the metal sleeve in the bush and the bolt.
Surreyvr6 199
I think it would be easier to hacksaw the sleeve and bolt rather than the nut as the nuts awkward to get to, plus once it's cut both sides of the shock, the shock should come out giving me more room to get out the remaining nut and bolt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
andymk312v 15
Just cut the side closest to the axle then pull the bolt out. Then the fun begins.
Surreyvr6 199
Ah yeh, never thought of just cutting that side, obvious really when I think about it lol! How do you mean then fun begins, getting the new nut into the clip? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
andymk312v 15
I thought it was a captive nut, welded to the axle? But I do recall a spring clip type device now you say that.
Surreyvr6 199
I read a few people mentioning clips when browsing for info on the net, I've got new nuts and bolts on order from vw Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CALICO 130
Its no captive and there is not enough space to shove the bolt into the axle if your going to cut both ends you might as well just cut the nut end.
Surreyvr6 199
Got locked out the house and luckily I nicked a hacksaw out the van before I got dropped off, safe to say that blade is now shagged and not got through the bolt yet lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk VR6Pete
