michael5556 247
What parts did you get in your kit and what's your intercooler like?
leespiro 9
hi i didnt get a intercooler with the kit but i was wondering if its a good idea to have 1 fitted
michael5556 247
No it's not really necessary really. It's more needed on turbos or highly tuned supercharger.
leespiro 9
ok mine has the 1 bar pulley do i need a charge cooler or meth injection
Daverse 175
Personally i would, its only going to cool the hot air coming out of the compressor, so its going to help the engine make power. If you get a good one it can reduce boost losses you get in cheaper intercoolers.
leespiro 9
ok cool u know anyplace that supply the kit or do u have to buy them separate
Daverse 175
I dont really know of any places that do 'kits' mainly because every builds different at the end of the day. Personally i would get the intercooler, i would recommend a garret core or maybe a forge but i believe they support more 1.8t engines and the such. Once you've got that mocked up somewhere, plan your pipe routes and write a list out of bends and straights you'll need. That's my way of thinking anyway.
leespiro 9
thanks what u think about charge coolers
Daverse 175
Theres positives and negatives to each, i'll be running a charge cooler when mines up and running. I think there can be a bit more boost loss, because pipework is more intricate and the tank changes the direction of the air. Although spturbo claim theirs has a boost loss of something like .25 bar iirc, and i wont doubt their claims. But i believe it has more cooling efficiency.
leespiro 9
think the charge cooler will be a easier install u got any links for the kits
Daverse 175
http://www.spturbo.com/onlinestore/index.php/sp-air-to-water-intercooler-system.html thats the schimmel performance one,i dont know if anyone elss doss any kits. although a lot of people make their own. Daverse 175
As for fitment, i wouldve said a chargecoolers harder to fit, as you not only have to fit the intercooler (albeit smaller) and you have to fit the tank somewhere in the bay (probably where the battery used to be) and the wiring for pump e.t.c
leespiro 9
ok can the charger be used without charger cooler and intercooler
Daverse 175
Could do, but i would keep boost well down, or you could start detonation
michael5556 247
Agree with above but to be honest you don't really need one unless going big numbers
craggsy 91
I never had a IC when I ran my rotrex
RBPE 198
Wow, £1100 + taxes (>25%) for that £650 Schimmel kit! My god, some people must have more money than sense!
