House of Colour

Recommended Posts

I went down to JBS Autos with John Chantry yesterday and they are a House of Coulour franchise.

I had a word with James who owns the place and showed him the 3 little rust spots that are really annoying me and really letting the car down.

He had a good look over it and apart from spotting two tiny little dents that I hadn't even noticed (and I'm like a hawk with door dents!) he said its the cleanest MK3 he's seen in ages, (hes probably not seen one in 5 years!!). So I asked him to quote me on paint.

I've asked a couple of paint shops and they've said they'd paint the quarter and blow in the door. But James said he's a perfectionist and seeing as the car has never had paint it needs to be done properly cos its worth showing.

Thing is he wants to paint the side of the car as the black pearl is a nightmare to laydown and blend. Windows will come, out trim off, no masking lines etc.

Is it worth me spending the £1000 to get the job done so you'd never notice its been touched?

Awkward question that m8.... Thats a lot of money for 3 little rust spots. It depends where they are. I know a guy whos just sprayed my Mrs car (brand new Volvo S40) and thats been blown in and you cant tell at all! Really good job. And its an difficult pearlescent/ mettalic colour. He quoted me 200 quid to do the door, and arches on mine. I know House of Colour are supposed to be really good but £1000 is a lot of money.....

James, it's as Mr JBS said, your car doesn't justify a cheap blow in job of your rear quarter and bottom of your door.

It's also as he said, with metatic paint you could paint two panels, one with a movement of left to right the other right to left using the same paint out of the same gun and in the sun they would look totally different because of the flake, stick out like a saw thumb. I'd say save up and get it done properly.

You get what you pay for imo.......if it was mine I’d have it done right, I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my vr, and just spent a little over that last month have some similar work carried done (not that it really needed it)...ive seen some cheap work done in the past and if you have an eye for body work it can stand out like a saw thumb.
