malcolm 0
Anybody know whether you can retro fit airbags to OBD1 VR6 and if so what is involved.
acf8181 0
well, logic says you'd have to take all the wiring and control unit, plus obviously the airbag and wheel.....but, it wuld have to come from a late obd1 (they have bags from '94), and not an obd2 as there's most likely a lot of differences (you can use the actual bags and wheel tho). oh, the steering column may need modifying to fit the different wheel as well, not sure the splines the same.tbh its really not worth the hassle...you're better of selling you non-airbag car and getting one with airbags.[ Edited Thu Mar 31 2005, 10:02AM ]
malcolm 0
ACF, thxs, mine is an L 94 , so just thought that since they had them as options then that the wiring etc may be in place and it would be jut a case of fitting the bags
FishWick 21
I thought retro fitting airbags was illegal as the saftey cannot be guaranteed? You also need the Airbag ECU and impact sensors....it's a lot of hassle.
acf8181 0
a '94 should have them as standard...was only an option on lower models i think.could be that yours is a late registered '93 though.
fabio_vr6 0
coloumn is the same on all mk3s so the wheel will fit, you will need the ecu, loom, sensors, wheel and bags, it isnt worth it anyway, would make the car a higher insurance risk as they cannot be guanteed to work
