MK2R32 0 Posted March 18, 2005 Report Share Posted March 18, 2005 I had a custom exhaust built for my car last year and I've been totally happy with the system, but over the last few week I've noticed my lovely Gold tailpipes starting to turn blue, Thought it look abit weired so i stop off at longlife on way home from work today, the manager took one look and said 'Dont get many of these (refering to the exhaust)' he said 'Young Chav's pay good money for the blue flame effect', said it's not for me what can be done?, he also noted the whole exhaust was very very hot far hotter than a usual exhaust system, it was still red hot 15/20mins after i pulled up. Mmmm..Anyone had any similar experiances? Anyone know if the R32 is renounded for having a very hot exhaust system?The out come is I've decided to change my tail pipe design, going for a twin round with a kind of heat deflector in side similar to the V6 4motion, should hopefully stop it from going blue. stu h 0 Posted March 18, 2005 Report Share Posted March 18, 2005 i dont know if this helps but i remember a mag article testing a supersprint exhaust on the r32. the exhaust sat flush with the body when cold but after a good run it stuck out a fair way due to heat expansion. it stuck out almost an inch -so a fair old way. i'm nopt sure if most cars would cause that or not, but it may be of some use! TVR6 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Report Share Posted May 16, 2005 Hey Guys, I'm new to the VR6OC. My sister and I also have Longlife systems fitted to our 96 & 97 VR6s. Mine has twin oval slash cut (3.5x3") twin tailpipes and we both get the same heat expansion where the tailpipes stick out an extra inch. It returns to normal after a short while but is very hot for a while. The tailpies turn blue/black after a while but can be polished back to new with a good metal cleaner/polish. I use autosol. TVR6 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Report Share Posted May 16, 2005 Most after market system do knock after a while. I think it's due to the weight of the system lol the tail pipes alone weigh a fair bit. I think the heat thing is down to the VR being a 6 pot and the exhaust gasses being that much hotter. Never happened on other 4 pot machines I owned. It sure threw me, I'd just pulled away from Longlife, pulled into to get some fuel and though 'EH?! What's going on here?!' lol Link to post Share on other sites

TVR6 0 Posted May 18, 2005 Report Share Posted May 18, 2005 I think it's limited to stainless steel systems only. Mild steel doesn't expand in the same way. You have to watch the tips too, they're scolding hot for a long while after you've switched off lol as my local carwash guys found out when one of them cleaned some soot off with his finger. They listened to what I wanted and gave me their opinions on the options I should go for. Excellent system and the exhaust note is just spot-on. Only wished I had it fitted earlier. My sister and I both had our VRs done at Longlife in Croydon and 8 months on are still very happy. The claim that they can tune the sound from quiet to full race roar isn't quite accurate as there's only so quiet you can go and the design of the pipe layout/choice of tail pipe influences the final sound to a degree. Having said that they do bed down after a month or so and become deeper. They are very helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to send you away happy. They spent an extra 45mins after closing time tweaking mine into a position I was happy with (tailpipes you perverts!) They also provide a further gurantee that if within 3months you're not satisfied with the sound they will change the rear boxes foc. We had ours done for Link to post Share on other sites
