cabrioman 6
does it make the noise all the time or does it come and go ?????? is it one of them new style belts that has to settle into the grooves ????
rsweeney 40
noise was after first fitting belt but went after i sprayed it before coming back. i sprayed it again and so far it appears to have gone after driving it today, but its weird that to stop it squealing initially i had to spray it? i bought it from eurocarparts ,expensive belt but really not sure if its the type that has to settle?? i have listened to everythin with screwdriver and seems quite.will update after drivin it for a while to whether noise comes back or not.cheers guys
cabrioman 6
if it goes when you spray the belt id be inclined to say its the belt ..... just because its an expensive belt don`t mean its a good belt if you know what i mean, try buying a cheap one see how that goes or if its still does it ..... rsweeney 40
i bought a cheapy to start and it was really noisy , yeah i know what your saying will see if this one wears in atall , today seemed normal, a frustrating problem i just hope it settles in as i had no trouble with the old belt on the car that was hugely cracked
rsweeney 40
it is still noisy not squealing badly but squeaking , could it be the power steering pump pulley that isnt straight as when looking at it with engine running it appears to look bent but no play in pulley? cabrioman 6
could be mate all the pulleys should run true ..... try getting a hold of a new 2nd hand one and give that a go
rsweeney 40
found the prob. pulley was straight on power steering pump however at low revs you could visually see the pulley moving about -even though i had checked the pulley for play. so i thought if the noise goes at higher revs it might be the centrifugal force straightening it and the reason it comes back at low revs is cause there isnt enough force there to keep it straight, making it move about? anyway second hand pump it is , cheers for the help.in the mean time is it ok to use the car with the bad pump untill pump comes ?
