As far as I know, all VRs had a water cooled oil cooler. It's a square block with two water pipes and a large central bolt at the front of the engine, next to the oil filter.

Not sure if you can get a retro-fit air cooled (radiator type) oil cooler.

Not sure if there's any recommended limits.

I guess you've got to expect high oil temps at that speed.

I would consider an additional cooler if you're giving it some on a regular basis.

When I get mine on the track (eventually) I'll have to keep an eye on mine!

I think there's another thread about oil temps from last year on the forum.

I wouldn't worry about 108 degrees C. Most oil is at optimum lubrication between 80 and 110.

My Golf has a Eurotech Racing oil cooler kit. Think these are still available. Not sure whether all VRs have a cooler as standard after a certain year. Didn't think so.

I've never seen more than 100 C on the road and only 114 on track (after 20 minutes of chasing a P1 Impreza).

My VR Corrado used to run at 104-110 on the motorway and hit over 140 a few times on track (probably not good).

108 is fine but a cooler should knock 20 degrees off the running temperature.

he he, surprisingly ive only hit 100 degrees while gunning it with the turbo, i was hitting 16psi, and went right through from 40 to 145 mph a few times (was toying with a tuscan. he he) im going to get a mocal cooler anyway just to be on the safe side, as this little run was only about 5 mins worth, id imagine if i was cruising down the motorway at 70 all day it would rise higher. how much is the stealth mocal cooler?
