oldmandon 1
Not sure if this is the place to ask, well not sure WHICH was the best place to ask so stuck it here....Please move to correct sectionI'm thinking of getting an orbital polisher, but want to know who uses what and which would be the best buy. It needs to be electric, as I haven't got a compressor powerful enough to power a DA...I'v got one that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket, but it doesn't seem to do anything!!!!!!! Think it's similar to the Draper one........Any and all advice gratefully accepted as always!!!!

bungy 2
I've got a Kestrel orbital which needs some experience to operate and very easy to burn through and a Kestrel DA which is very easy to use and very hard to get wrong. Kestrel customer services is really good aswel. The speed controller went on my orbital out of warranty and I e-mailed them asking to buy a replacement and they sent one free of charge by return post. Not many companies would do that. Biggazvr6 0
As bungy says. Orbital polishers can be hard to operate and you can end up with very messy paint work if your technique is wrong. Bit trying to out you off just a word if warning from someone who's had a go, made a mess and spent many an hour practicing to get it right.
bungy 2
Yes mine is the same as the link from Dan. In fact, it was Dan that helped me get mine and it has one key function that makes it so good. If you press too hard where you might damage your paintwork the dual action will stall until you soften the pressure.

There are loads I'd buds on you tube on how to machine polish. Problems arise more when you start using compounds etc in regards to swirling and burning through.
oldmandon 1
I'm wanting to remove swirls first, then use it for normal polishing and buffing....Vids are all well and good, but I find for me actually watching someone and being supervised fora short while is better for me, I pick it up much quicker!!!!!!! bungy 2
Always work a test area and build up in grades to the right speed of correction. There are very helpful forums just for this as there are a lot of variables. The end results can be stunning.
Biggazvr6 0
Fair comment. It's very much trial and error. If you are wanting to remove swirls you'll need a fine finishing compound. Farcela g10 is a good starting point or something equivalent. Start by using the machine at low speed with a small amount of compound. Use plenty of water on the panel as this will aid cooling and prevent burning through as easy.
