i reckon (though have never actually been on a strip) hold revs steady at 4000rpm and slip the clutch as much as you dare. if you drop below the torque increase (at about 4000rpm) you're screwed. also, too much wheel spin is a killer. FWD sucks getting off the line.

I findyou need to hold it on the handbrake keeping one hand on it with the button in ready to release, keep the clutch just below the biting point so car is still but trying to almost move. I tend to find revs at about 3.5-4k is best and then release handbrake as you carefully feather the clutch as much as you dare, ensuring you have let clutch fully out before completely nailing the throttle!

I've recorded a few sub 7 secs 0-60 times with The Golfs timing gear strapped to my car, although was on a very dirty and gravelly disused airstrip at Bovingdon.

Got few runs on vid, but no idea of where to host them?

They recon car should be easily doing low 6's on better ground. Bearing in mind mines modded and was on road tyres and 17's! Would hope to break the 6.0sec barrier if I'm very lucky on 15's, slicks and a sticky surface (Santa Pod)?

power seems to trail off just after 6k on mine. so about 6250 is prob best.

yeah, forgot to mention, work out where your biting point it and then have the clutch just below it rather than at the bottom of the travel (can save a tenth ot two there). but do not sit on the biting point or you will kill your clutch.

same goes for slipping it...its a risk, more you slip it (let is out gradually) more risk of damage to clutch, but will greatly minimise wheel spin.

i must have the technique down quite well, as my clutch has still got lots of life and its done 120k...not that id do that many fast starts ;) lol

just to give u an idea i done a 15.5 at santa pod, not the best but me first time, totally standard and reaction time was shitty with the take of to. i recon with a practice ill get into 14's which equate to a 6's 0-60 hopefully.

any 1 else got any times??
