MK2R32 0
If it's the same as an R32 box & rear diff, I'd say you'll be struggling just getting the box in never mind the rear axle, when we built my car we played about with the idea of putting the R32 running gear on but it would have needed major chassy and structural work doing from the front back the box it's much bigger than the VR's. I'd say find a syncro running gear would be alittle easier.
acf8181 0
yeah, even the box is a pain to get in....lots of custim stuff will be done.to be honest its not really worth it....you'll loose power through extra transmission loses, you'll loose performance through extra weight....and its not even that good a 4wd system at the end of the day. its fwd most of the time! antera309 3
I don't think it's ever been tried. The Mk4's floorpan is wider than the Mk3's, so you could end up with bits sticking out of the sides if you weren't careful. If you wanted to do an R32-powered 4x4 Mk3, the easiest and cheapest way would be to use a VR6 Syncro as a base car, even if you had to travel to Germany to get one! MK2R32 0
I'm using a VW rebuilt gearbox from a late VR with a quaife ATB diff, VR drive shafts with G60 outer CV's, was gonna use VR6 5 stud hubs but decided to keep the G60 4studs because of the offsets (wanted to use a 7.5" rim ET35 with 215/40/17 tyres), flywheel is a VR with a uprated VR clutch, VR Hydraulic clutch slave and master cylinders, VR starter, Passat pedal box c/w drive by wire throttle. VR rear subframe, Vibratec mounts all round, Can't think of anything else you might need to know.I'd say that there probably won't be that many R32 mark2 being done in the future because you need 3 cars to do the conversion. VRmonster 1
on a similar note. is there anyway tou can get the syncro to setup as rear wheel only as that would be a very fun way of doing it. lol. suppose the hardest bit is getting the fronts to drive without being linked to the box.also, if i was to buy a syncro and transplant my vr engine into it. can they be converted to rhd or is that a daft idea? obviously using all of the rhd stuff (pedal box steering rack etc...) from my car.
