rsweeney 40
Been given a vr6 with front crash damage to the drivers side. can this be resolved or not? and how expensive would it be ? the car is really good apart from this :/
oldmandon 1
I dare say this could be fixed, Paul Parky would be the man to speak to...... But Im guessing the car will need to be jigged as well...Only my guess.
legvw 0
Probably looks worse than it is. Has it bent the front subframe? Or the main subframe? Is there any creasing around the bulkhead/strut area of the leg/body? A few more pictures may help to see it all clearer. The only thing that worries me is that the damage may have effected the squareness of the 2 chassis legs against the car body.In an ideal world it would need to be jigged, before any decision is made, but you maybe able to measure certain points, take a level to set points to find out yourself, just make sure you can get the car sitting level first.Hope this helps!P.S, i have a pair of mk3 golf chassis legs and a front subframe/cross member if you need it! rsweeney 40
ha i saw the vr project youd done - wonder what spares you have from that... any guidance you can give me on this one is great - it hasnt bent the front subframe from what i can see, the brackets that it attaches to though look rather weak now but i guess could just be re welded on. There is no creasing on the bulkhead and whilst towing it there was no change in how it handles or sits. here are some pics.
legvw 0
I wouldn't like to make any sort of decision on this without seeing it in person.Try doing what ive said above, have a search for jigging dimesions on the net, and go from there.Oh, is the windscreen cracked? rsweeney 40
hard to believe but the windscreen is fine, i will search for the jigging dimensions. its around £200 to stick it on jig without anything else
Vw_owner 1
imo its just not worth it m8, i know where we live we dont have MOT, but at the end of the day its just a mk3 golf shell, cars will allways take up our money and time and do you realy want to invest money and time into a car/shell that has had damage like that?and could potentialy never be put right... rsweeney 40
end result - was going to need a new drivers side chassis leg , then need to be jigged to straighten up everthing else. £800 without the price for panels included. have decided to buy a mk3 that will be offered up to all the vr6 bits for a conversion, shame as it was a nice car but it just wasnt worth it and this new mk3 should make a better vr6!
