Hi Guys,

I am stuck with the decision of selling the VR. I originally brought the car as a bit of a restoration type job and planned on keeping it for a while. However due to a possible change of circumstances I will now be driving 100 miles a day which frankly in the VR is not feasable.

Now the VR still needs a little bit of work to it. Cosmetically its a bag of shite and needs a respray and all the rust sorting out. Mechanically it needs a new rocker cover gasket and there is now a funny noise coming from the front suspension.

However the engine and interior are absolutely mint and to be honest for the 600 quid I payed its a lot of fun and frankly value for money wise it cant be beaten. I acvtually think I am in love with the car lol...

Now given the condition of the vehicle I highly doubt I will get some good money for it. I have considered purchasing a Citroen Saxo VTR for $500 quid as a run around and insure the VR limited mileage and with the money im saving on petrol - do the VR up.

Now currently im paying £58 a month on insurance (3 years NCB) and for £70 im getting less than 200 miles locally.

I guess i need persuading - do I keep the VR insure it limited mileage and drive the saxo as a daily?

Is there anyone on this forum that is running two cars? More importantly has anyone made the transistion that I am thinking of and whats it like to insure a second car with no NCB?

Financially to run my VR in my current sito im looking atleast £100 a week for fuel plus my £58 a month for insurance and if I round it up to £500 a month inc MOT TAX and servicing im looking at £6k a year to run a VR....

Im sure for this type of cash I can run both cars and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Any advice and financial breackdowns appreciated.

Ranj

I run a VR6, an Audi A4 Avant 2.0TDi, A Ford Transit Minibus/Camper project, A Kawasaki Z750. All insured and used. I switch between them as and when I feel like it. I have the 2 cars insured with the same company, and they mirrored my no claims onto both cars so it's not too bad. May be worth looking at doing that, then you're not starting from fresh again......Point is KEEP the VR

I was put in a position last year by my wife, As I was a mature student, my wife, not me, says that we can no longer justify running two cars, as my wife doesn't drive.

I had at the time my Golf Vr6 and a 54 plate Honda Accord 2.4L S-type touring. Gun metal grey, with the sat nav(original owner requested)

Anyhow, I placed them both at the same on Pistonheads, within 2 hours I had sold the Honda to Honda themselves. Requested cash, they turned up next morning to collect and the driver said anything on the horizon with a new car, I said nope, I have my Golf. He replied, bit old. I said I love it and deep down glad it never went.

Thanks Don, you raise a valid point. I may speak to the insurance company tomorrow and see that they have to say. Despite the work that needs to go into the VR, I still think that despite being such an old car it can still keep up with the best of them, hence the reason I dont want to sell.

if its got bad rust problems i would try n sell it for what i got it for and be on the look out for one thats in better shape,

imo i would rather pay extra for one that has no rust as rust repair bills arent cheap or fun, unless you want to have a go at doing the repairs and respray yourself?
