potti 0
Hi, I'm a first time owner of a Golf III VR6, 1993 mod. and new to the VR6 Owners Club.Hope someone can be so kind and answer some questions of mine. When the ignition is turned off, the pump that circulates the radiator water does not stop. I have to disconnect the plus pole from the battery for it to stop. Any suggestion of what that could be? (thermostat, relay?)And also the exhaust/emission outlet level is 5,5 (the limit for EU control is less than 0,5). The car has a Remus effect exhaust system. (km: 186000) The car has also been standing still for 2 years... Suggestions of where to begin to lower the emission? (change air filter, spark plugs, reset the brain?)Kind RegardsPotti (Norway)
bungy 2
If the car has been stood for a while it will be worth changing the oil and filter. Disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect. Are you sure it has a catalytic converter fitted?
Gazbarber1982 3
When mine kept running it was the fan control module. Black rectangular box just below the coolant tank. As for emissions, your lambda could be broke but try getting it plugged into vagcom for fault codes.
potti 0
Thanks for very fast replies guys, really appreciate it Bungry: The filter and oil was changed just before the car was set away for 2 years ago, but is it worth changing it anyways? Will 10 min reset someting? The car has a catalytic converter.Gazbarber: The fan control module (fuse box) is new. I'll try hooking it up to vagcom for fault codes regarding the emission. craggsy 91
Im assuming you mean the pump that is top right hand corner of engine that has coolant hoses going into it keeps running when you turn off....if so then it should do that
bungy 2
Depends where the car has been stored. You will still get condensation where temperatures change on metal. 2 years even if not used is past time to change oil. Fuel in the tank may not be too good either. Sounds like it may need a run to get it all settled down after a scan.
potti 0
craggsy: yes, its that pump. The thing is that it never turns off until the battery is completly drained. Bungy: I'll try your suggestion and change the oil and filter. Hope it helps
Gazbarber1982 3
It should go off after 10-15 mins once the engine has been turned off. Is your fan regulator brand new?
potti 0
I dont know about the fan regulator (where is this located?), but the radiator fan is new and the little fuse boks (20 A and 5 A) underneath the plastic radiator tank is new. When I pulled out the 5A fuse today, the circulating pump stopped. Does this pump get any signal from a termostat somewhere?
VR6Pete 1,455
Yes, the yellow sensor on the thermo housing.. Could be possible the sensor is knackered... Use the above procedure to test... Pete
rustyshell 0
The aux pump used to run all the time on mine, this may be hard to believe but check all your external bulbs have not blown, one of mine was blowed on the head lamp, replaced the bulb and this stopped the Aux fan continually running. Also check all your HT leads are fully pushed home on the spark plug and coil pack/dizzy
potti 0
Thx alot Pete for the procedure, I'll try it out.I know there's a ground (GND) error on the right tail light. The red driving light flashes together with the direction light.. maybe there is an obscure link between them
