Bampson 0
If there was a place local to you, that rented out time and space on ramps, a bit like a DIY Kwik Fit. Which for an hourly rate of say a tenner, allowed you to get to the underside of your car and do all those jobs you end up laying in the road to do.With on site technical help in case you got stuck, and tools that you dont have in your own collection, available to borrow, rent however you wish to phrase it.Would you be interested in using such a place.??On a turn up, use and go basis. binliner 0
yes... although I think Id prefer to be able to book

Slim 0
There's a place up here in Aberdeen that recently done that, I think it's called the DIY garage, it's doing quite well by all accounts, not used it yet but daresay the use of ramps might come in handy in the future. badboyV6 4
tenner an hour seems reasonable- especially if you get access to tools that you wouldnt normally have lying around. Suppose youd need quite a hefty disclaimer mind!! And a decent insurance policy
stu h 0
doh! thats almost what me and a mate have in mind -we've been polishing the idea for quite some time
Geastb 0
Seems a good idea - would be good to have someone who knows what they are doing on hand to check people are being safety concious too!
Seademon 0
I would use something like - be really handy for changing oil etc - I can drip it all over your floor and not my drive! Just kidding! Its a good idea, it'd be really handy I think.£10 an hour seems quite reasonable, I'd be a bit reluctant to pay anymore than that though to work on my own car etc but depends on the situation & what Im doing to it cos I could be there for hours. Also, as binliner said - being able to book a time would be good.[ Edited Wed Feb 16 2005, 02:20PM ]
VRmonster 1
this would be a good idea, i wish i could have had the use of this sort of thing when doing the work on my car, but my car has been sat there for about 4 weeks so £10 per hour isnt really worth it, if you done it on a permanent basis, ie a rented are for say a week for like £100 that would be a good idea also. Devilfish 0
already use this at work we have a car club, they have 5 bays and a large area for parking. there is a hydrolic ramp and a bonded tool store... membership is £10 per annum ... the benefits of working on a RAF base ! VR6Rich 3
This is a top idea that I wish was available as I could do some of the work myself rather than pay a mechanic to do it!I read about the one in Scotland and thought it was a really good idea. Any more than £10 an hour would be pushing it a bit though.
cookiesvw 0
the amount of times i could have used a ramp to see the underside of a car, this would be bliss
Bampson 0
o it is agreed a tenner is about right ??
Devilfish 0
i think thats quite expensive if your only using the ramp! IMHO

DundeeDub 0
i would say it is well worth 10 an hour
stu h 0
agreed £10 an hour is a fair price.
antera309 3
It's uncanny, I was talking to my Father the other week about starting exactly the same sort of business. There's no doubt that it could be very profitable if done right. As a customer, I would definitely use such a service and know many other people that would too. There would even be interest from mobile mechanics who currently have to turn down potentially profitable jobs due to lack of workshop facilities. There are not may people out there doing this. I imagine this is beacuse injury liability concerns put most people off. There's no reason why it should - you would simply get all your customers to sign a liability waiver, just like the owners of a racetrack do when you want to take your car for a thrash on their tarmac![ Edited Thu Feb 17 2005, 12:45AM ]
antera309 3
Come to think of it, I might be interested in coming in on this business if you need more people & investment. PM me if you like.[ Edited Thu Feb 17 2005, 12:42AM ]

Bampson 0
So if we say a tenner is fair, what would be fair for storage of a car that the owner snaps a bolt and the car is undrivable for a couple of day untill the new part arrives ?? i am thinking 20 quid a day ? any thoughts ?? antera309 3
Did this go anywhere?I could really do with hiring some workshop space for a week or so. My new engine is delivered soon.
