pfennell 0
Just got my engine running after rotrex build,im getting loads of white froff like gunk coming up from the timing chain side and its all over the cams and dipstick, a few symtoms : white froff from timing chain side" " on the dipstick, filler cap and cams,no contamination in header tankno white smokeno leaking around head gasketcompression test done all within parametersintermitent loud mechanical noise some times when coming off the revs but not all the time sounds like it is coming from around the bottom area but cannot pin point.engine hesitates around 4000rpmsince the initial build but before i put the charger on it sat for around 6 months over the winter in my garage.the engine has had a full top end rebuild and there was no white gunk after initial build and no clunking noise. i know it sounds alot but im sure its probably just one problem.all help is greatly received as ever... cabrioman 6
hmm dont sound good mate .... sounds like head gasket to me ..... what boost you running and has had the compression lowered ??? what head gasket have you used ???? has it lost any coolant ????
UnitedMotorsport 55
could be the oil cooler
pfennell 0
yes dropped compresssion using a 2mm spacer gasket and 2 original gaskets running 6psi but only ran engine for around 40 mins in total over 2 days.how can i check the oil cooler to see if it is working properly. when i did my comp test the front 3 were on 98psi and the rear 3 ranged from 120 to 128 psi if that helps
cabrioman 6
bypass the oil cooler by linking the two coolant hoses together .... or remove it and see if water passes in the oil section of the cooler
pfennell 0
cheers fellas ill give the cooler a go hopefully its that...any ideas on the loud clonking noise cannot pin point as it sounds like it is in different places every time it sounds
cabrioman 6
not really with out hearing it mate ....
trackday 0
think if i had the money to put a blower on mine there would be lots of white creamy stuff everywhere lol
ROBSVENTO 0
Ha good one lol...I feel for you mate, it dont sound good, if it was oil cooler you would have oil in the water more so that water in the oil...If you think about it oil pressure is far greater than water pressure, there for oil squirts into the coolant syatem becasue the water cant really get passed the oil if ya see wat i mean...Try sticking a FORTE engine flush in with the oil, run it for 5 mins till warm, then drain oil and change the filter.. top up with new oil and run it again, if it goes creamy then id say 100% head gasket..Esp since you used a 2 mm steel one and 2 standard ones, my gues is its leaking inbetween the head gaskets layers putting water straight into your cylinders/oil, perhaps that explasins your miss fire at higher revs and knocking noise, prob letting water go into the cylinder bore and engines cant compress water hense the knocking noise... Carefull you dont bend a rod or summit.. Sound like head gasket to me, sorry bud.. :-(You can try oil cooler, i remover mine and took it to a engineers place and got it tested, they put 150 psi of air in the coolant side and submerge the whole thing in water and see if any bubbles come out of it.. But like i said oil pressure is greater than water so you would deffo see oil in water..My bets on head gasket....Hope this helps...
pfennell 0
cheers mate ive just taken the oil cooler off and its all fine no water in the oil jackets,so heading to the head gasket, yer the bore size on the 2mm spacer is slightly bigger than the original ones,so may remove and just run 1 standard gasket this should be ok running 6psi rotrex..hope the valves are fine as all new around 5 months ago should be done by sunday work permitting.. spadam 7
Don't think you can run a rotrex without a spacer plate as if the boost peaks you will blow your engine.
