jesterwalker69 0
As many of you know I'm currently running 17 inch ABT A24's 7.5 wide and ET35.In order to get these to clear the Porsche calipers I had to fit 10mm spacers. You can see in my sig how tight the fit is!Thing is I am considering selling these but dont want to buy some new ones and find they are a total hassle to fit over brakes.I also dont want to use any thicker spacers if possible as the wheels only JUST sit in the arches for MOT purposes and I dont want to swap back to standard brakes!Am I correct in thinking that getting new wheels with a different offset could alter the caliper clearence and thus alter the thickness/need for spacers? Or does it also depend on the design of the wheel?I know in the past i raised a thread about offsets but I still cant get my head round it (I am blonde remember!)! So what offset do I need to accomodate the brakes? Thanks for any help (hopefully more than another VW forum...lol)
Ian_rogers 0
It's a mix of offset and wheel design I believe

Ben Seabrook 4
yeah as above it depends on the style of the wheel and the offset mate but obviously with your spacers you can work it out mate - use this http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp and enter your current setup and then the specs of the new wheels to work it out - obvioulsy if you go for a smaller width i.e a 7J you will have room to add a bigger spacer to clear the brakes etc
jesterwalker69 0
Cheers for that Ben. So essentially my ET is 45 now coz I have added 10mm to the hub with my current spacers?Yer I dont really want to go for skinnier wheels as it would look silly
Ben Seabrook 4
yes mate and you only need skinner wheels at the front ! and you cant tell what width they are when the car is low and just give you more scope to have a wider spacer to clear the brakes dependant on style
