chief ka kar 0
At the moment it would have to be one or the other. Which one would you go with ?
craggsy 91
Charger......without a doubt
chief ka kar 0
Cheers for that, would a stage1 charger be ok without putting a spacer plate in.
chief ka kar 0
Just doing some more read up on chargers, will i need to upgrade my fuel pump as well. Just wanted to get a full cost together.
FishWick 21
Stock Corrado 4 bar pump (yours is 3 bar being OBD2) can hold 8psi of Stage 2 Vortech, just.If you're going Rotrex, I would defo fit an uprated pump. Walbro GSS340. Stealth Racing sell them and also supply the required sleeve for a snug fit into your pump housing. Approx £100.
spadam 7
Kev if you upgrade the fuel pump itself do you also need to upgrade the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Not to clued up on that. As i wanting to get a rotrex but no i need to upgrade the fueling system to unsure reliability.
FishWick 21
Not always mate, it depends on the mapping and injector sizing etc.All a regulator does is set the chosen rail pressure and then throws the surplass back to the tank. It's not a good idea to run a 4 bar reg with a 3 bar pump, but a 4 bar pump with a 3 bar reg is fine. Always over pump to regulator! The important bit is making sure the pump can sustain the required flow in boost because as fuel pressure increases, flow reduces. So if you had your 3 bar pump running a 4 bar regulator, already at wide open throttle the the reg is demanding 4 bar, 1 bar over the pump's specification. Then add a bar of boost on top of that, it's got to deliver 5 bar pressure. If you had the 4 bar pump, it would only be 1 bar over pressure, which some pumps are OK with, but not the stock VW ones. It's why the Bosch 044 is so good. It can run at 8 bar with good flow to match! :-)
spadam 7
Looks like i will leave my Fuel regulator along and buy a Bosh 044 fuel pump. Will prob have to get some larger injectors as im wanting to run 8psi with a rotrex hopefully just under the 300bhp mark.
spadam 7
Sorry think rotrex is 10psi
chief ka kar 0
I already have the 4 bar reg better leave that till i get the uprated pump in cheers for the info
chief ka kar 0
Thinking about this alot, i think i may start at the base before charging ie new clutch, new chains and put spacer in. Would the spacer plate make any differance to a stock engine ???

If you're going for 10psi, the Walbro in-tank pump Stealth sell is more than up to the job!

Won't make a huge difference to be honest, slightly worse throttle response.

Gota find a good supplier for red top injectors now then.

Then get the charger done at a later stage. Just wasnt sure putting a spacer in was good on stock without a charger or turbo.Or should i just wait till i can get it all done at once. FishWick 21
Makes no odds really mate. It will prefer 95 unleaded as a low comp engine :-)
