richgti97 0
hi all.. new problem for the new year! great! lol The vr recently broke down on me.. engine cut out and would not start..smoke pouring from engine..near the oil cooler. I hadent noticed but my oil temp gauge was reading around 150! Car now starts but top end sounds really rough and oil temp climbs to around 130-150 within around 10mins of starting up. Also water in dissapearing sumwere..(no leaks) i am wondering if the water is mixing with the oil in the cooler? any help would be most helpfull1 cheers guys
HAMMER_VR6 0
certainly sounds like oil cooler to meAs both coolant and oil flow through this there is potential for mixing/leakage.Especially if steam was seen coming from this area.
UnitedMotorsport 55
There is a reason that the oil is getting so hot so fast and it isnt the oil cooler....
richgti97 0
looking for help not sarcasm!
spadam 7
I think, there jst saying that something is causing the oil to get hot which may be more serious thm oil cooler. It would be hard to say what without seeing the car
richgti97 0
yeh maybe lol.. but they didnt give another possible reason.
HAMMER_VR6 0
how much water you lost?Have you checked your oil for manky substance. oh and does oil warning lamp come on ?
Phat VR6 3
yeah i can't think what his refering to. Hve you checked your oil level? If you've only got a very small amount in. like not even showing on the dip stick then the oil would heat up quicker and get hotter... Apart from that as long as your coolant temps ok i can't think what else would cause it.. Is it just a standard VR?
richgti97 0
Cheers guys! lol. lost about a litre of water..but no leaks. dipstick is showing just above max..seems to have gone up (possibly water?) coolant temp stays at 90, oil does look manky aswell now. yeh just standard engine
Ben Seabrook 4
has the oil turned to "mayo" underneath the filler cap ?
richgti97 0
no.. no mayo. just getting really hot..
spadam 7
Oil will heat up faster when its old. Noticed you said it looked old. I would put some fresh oil and fillter in as tht could resolve your problem
bungy 2
Going by your description you are saying your coolant is going down and your oil level is rising, along with over heating. I'd start my investigation at the cooler but wouldn't discount the head gasket.
Phat VR6 3
if waters getting into your oil the oil with start to go white and creamy. as bungy said it could be your headgasket. after a good run does the coolant pipes go ROCK soild? It could be that your exhaust gas'es are pressurising your coolant system and in the process heating your coolant. You can do a test to check for exhaust gas's in your coolant buy putting a little tester stick in the exspantion chamber
richgti97 0
the pipes are soft as normal.. temp is normal aswell.. The is just black and the level has gone up by quite a bit.. but isnt creamy.. however i havent ran it for more than 10mins since the problem started.
