michael5556 247
Hi I am looking at getting my cylinder head gas flowed, anyone know anywhere that does this and does a good job?
cabrioman 6
have a word with craggsy hes got one of mine on his old VR .... i done a few of them for people on here and no complaints so far .... lol
michael5556 247
Alright cool will pm him then message you!
FishWick 21
Better off fitting bigger valves and throttle than massaging the ports imo.
michael5556 247
Bigger valves was my next question!Where does good quality valves? And where would I get a larger throttle from?
matty.vrt 120
Don't bother waste of money on a vrt if you want more power run more boost.
matty.vrt 120
Ooops thought it was a vrt my bad
FishWick 21
LOL, that's the lazy tuner's way. More flow into the engine from the same boost. Why push 20psi to make 400whp when you can get it from 15?
FishWick 21
Bigger valves was my next question!Where does good quality valves? And where would I get a larger throttle from?I would personally use Ferrea valves. Been using them myself for over 50K miles now. Supertech make some good valves too.For a throttle, if yours is OBD2, can't be done. If it's OBD1, Ian can do you one. Alpina527@aol.com
michael5556 247
Alright nice one, will look up the valves, are they 41mm and 38mm?Will also give him a message about it as it obd1, nice one kev
FishWick 21
Here you go chap, undercut Supertech valves - http://www.importperformanceparts.net/imports/supertvalves-vw.htmlStandard and oversize choices are listed on there :-)
michael5556 247
Nice one and I messaged that guy about the throttle body and 120 is pretty good! Gonna order the valves soon also, need a remap to get full potential or wait till it's camed? Or just wait till turbo'd in a few months?
FishWick 21
Yeah Ian's a sound bloke and very fairly priced throttles. The bore is opened out and a bigger plate fitted. A really nice peice of work!Wait till it's turboed mate, no point paying for mapping 2 or 3 times :-)
michael5556 247
Another question for you kev!Fuel pressure! If I put a new walbro fuel pump and a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator with my large throttle body would the maf and lambda compasses the extra fuel? Or would it just flood it or backfire a lot?
FishWick 21
This is before going turbo I assume? Lambda will sort it out at idle and part throttle, but full throttle might be a touch rich, but VR6s like a bit of fuel up there anyway.
michael5556 247
Yeah gonna try and sort it all out before I go turbo, think I am just going to do the whole head before it though, cams, light weight hydraulic lifters, heavy duty valve springs, bigger valves, large throttle body, titanium retainers, Viton valve stem seals and some new valve guides, from schimmel then will have it gas flowed also should be good after that!
FishWick 21
It will be good mate.I started off with a turbo on the standard head and cams. Then popped on a Schimmel head and 263 cams and it was a different engine. Shed loads gruntier everywhere in the rev range,Schimmel's head has the parts you listed. Exhaust valves are inconel to handle the heat and those and the intakes are 1mm bigger. Cutback stems and guides, titanium caps and keepers, HD springs, gasket matched intake ports, 3 angle valve seat etc etc.It really does make a difference :-)
michael5556 247
How much did that set you back by though? And if I went for 3mm big valves I would have to have the valve seats reground?
FishWick 21
The head worked out at £1200 3 years ago. Not sure you can go 3mm over size on both valves as they'll hit each other!
michael5556 247
Sorry I meant the intake 3mm and I think exhaust is either 1.6 or 1.8 bigger

Phat VR6 3
fit a 24v engine for that money
FishWick 21
Sorry I meant it was $1200 dollars a few years ago, so £600ish at the time.Yeah you can go 24V for good money these days but ask anyone who's done it if it was as easy and cheap as people make out ;-)
