i checked the ecu relay and it smelt like burn, did the water in the ecu cause the short. i put another relay in but still no spark or fuel, also opened the ecu everthing looked fine inside. A month ago where i used to live i removed the ecu everynight for the fucken thieves. did this maybe wear out the ecu making it prone for water damage, i think the plastic cover closing the tray does not seal anymore. im getting an ecu for R1000 is it a good idea. i need the car back on the road urgently

r1000? the relay been burnt is a sign of to much current going through it, normally means a short somewhere down the line, have you tryed vagcom to see if it will talk to the car, if not then maybe the ecu is blown, i dose sound like it went a bit mental before it died, is it a obd1 or 2 as i know the obd1 will refuse to run if some of the sensors dont work.

it is the early 96 model so it is obd2, i changed the ecu relay but still no luck.why does the electric water pump keep on running when the ignition is on, is it normal. Then lastly, i used to remove the ecu constantly for theft, did that also maybe damage it
