powersteering fluid leaking..

filled the car with the fluid since the bottle was empty when i got the car. It works, but it starts dripping,and drops on the ground below the driver side control arm (our cars are right hand drive). Anyone know what the problem is before i send it away?

could be a leaking hose mate,when you're not using the car put some cardboard under it to see exactly where its dripping from..

Check the steering rack gaiter. If its leaking from there it needs a new rack.

couldn't you just replace the gaiters?

If its leaking inside the gaiter then the seal in the rack housing has gone. The gaiter is then just collecting the fluid.

a new rack sounds expensive on this car.. Its going to the mechanic on wednesday then he can tell me. I couldnt really see from what pipe it was leaking. I put in automatic transmission fluid, it should work with all power steering?

no you should not use normal atf mate its a vw only oil

power steering has to be VW spec G000200 you cannot use any other fluid or atf in them.

If you dont have VW spec fluid the only other you can use is called CHF 11S

okay il do so. But its still leaking because of the leak, not because of the oil im guessing? Il buy some of it from vw tomorrow.

different oil can wreck the seals, so you may have made any leaks that were present before you put atf in worse
