Induction Relocation Advice

Need help and advice as to where I could relocate the induction filter on my charged 4motion.

Currently it's sat in front of the right wheel arch, just behind the front bumper about at the level of the plastic grills.

As I live in Somerset and the roads are prone to bad flooding (and I don't want to turn it into submarine), I thought it might be best to move it.

At the moment I have a cone filter - ideally how short/long would the induction hose need to be? or can anyone recommend a better suited type of induction kit?

Would appreciate all help and advice on a possible solution!!

generally it is situated there as it's the best place without any specialist works...... The issue being that the MAF is just before it so really the only option is to route it straight off the charger... and thus you see the issue.. :D not just the filter to move...

if you can relocate the catch can you may be able to engineer it in to the space but... that will mean another flat air filter or the likes... and you are not likely to get heat guards in place...

I would need to think about this a bit more but here is a thought...

Maf off the charger and run a pipe around the back of the engine bay and into the battery space vacated by locating the battery into the boot...

at that height unless your crazy low it wont be an issue mate I wouldnt think - I ran mine on the VR pretty low and like you had to drive through some pretty bad water on some terrible roads and I never had a prob

at that height unless your crazy low it wont be an issue mate I wouldnt think - I ran mine on the VR pretty low and like you had to drive through some pretty bad water on some terrible roads and I never had a prob

Ahh right. Do you have the full undertray for the car? as mine doesn't have it.

no mate all plastics had been removed - air filter was about 10 -12 inches off the ground - I did have to change it slightly more often than before but as Rod says because of the hassle of moving the maf etc too I didnt think it was worth it :)

it should matter how long the induction pipe is but you will get more power if you can keep the air cool so i would use some heat wrap if you relocate to the bat. tray. I've seen a similar conversion on an audi TT where he switch the intake to the other side because it gets a better feed, he used a custom made aluminium pipe . i would suggest that if you do relocate it to the bat. tray u use a feeder hose to get some cold air to it as i'm sure it gets pretty hot under there and there's no real air flow to that area. i'm sure someone on here knows a lot more than me about it but thats my thought on the matter. :-)

hi mate is it a big job to move the battery to the boot and any ideas on who would do a custom pipe as i presume they would need the car ?

Don't know where he got it done but i will ask a guy at workwho is a TT nut, he may know about it as he has a twin turbo v6 conv. Apart from that, i guess you could check out the TT forums as i think it is a common mod???? Or contact the TT shop (google it), they would know. will speak to my m8 2mo.

The VF kit comes with the different shaped washer bottle which has been moved to make way for your charger. The washer bottle can be relocated again if need be and run your pipework to where the standard airbox was, but it is a long pipe run. The kit is well thought out and shouldn't need changing / modifying.

I would leave it as it is. It is a well thought out kit and very popular in the USA.

yeah but we live in the uk lol lol lol and its a bit wetter over here

yeah thats my main concern really as it will be my daily driver as the focus is going up for sale

With the kit the K&N filter is relocated down lowish on the drivers side but it is still well protected by everything around it and it has a guide / cover around it or has yours been removed?

Hi bungy i dont think mine ever had one on because its one ove the first conversions in the uk many years ago and that was a later add on i think ,also i dont have the undertray and some t***t has cut the inner wheel arches /splash gaurds so think i need to souce some and see if it helps dont even know what map its running as i heve no peperwork of the conversion as it was in a court case for 2 years and i cant get any info !!!!!!

If it was a kit it will of come with a map. Might be worth checking your ECU to see if it is a standard UK one or not. Vag com can tell if it is modified also. Worth sourcing the additional parts for your car to get it right and also the intake guard replaced.
