jonny-5 10
Hello again, My air con is blowing only slightly cold air. Before you ask it has been re-gased a few months ago. On removing the old gas the machine showed nearly the maximum amount of gas in the system had been removed, so I am confident that there are no leaks. After checking the proceedure on autodata I tried running the air con on full wack and checking the temperature of all the hoses, all were at ambient temperature which was a bit strange. The compressor clicks on and off as it should. Could it be the compressor at fault? Also the fan does not come on (see other thread). Anyone know where to go from here? dalevr6 0
The first thing I would do is to unplugg the pressure sensor thats located on the condencer down by the front bumper and bridge two connections on the plug (with engine running), either 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, If the fan doesnt kick in then its fucked, if it does then you may have a faulty pressure sensor. hope this helps! jonny-5 10
Thanks, i'll check it when it's not raining lol. Only thing is, if the switch sensed a too low or high operating pressure wouldn't the system not even engage the compressor clutch to protect it's self? The compressor on mine does cut in, just none of the pipes are at their correct temperature.
jonny-5 10
Right just VAG-COM'd it, the only fault found was the vehicle speed sensor, which i'm not sure affects it. Ran the car with the A/C on full load. The checked if the compressor engages - which it does, then I unplugged the pressure switch which caused the compressor to switch off, I then bridged connections 1 and 2 this made the compressor switch on again, then separately I bridged 3 and 4, this made the fans come on. I didn't run it for long like this but I think the pipes were starting to get to their correct temperatures. I'm gunna test the pressures in the pipes at work tomorrow just to check. I VAG-COM'd it again afterwards and just had the pressure sitch fault which I would have incurred by unplugging it with the car running. Which makes me think that it wouldn't be at fault as it would have shown up on VAG-COM before hand. What does the yellow temperature sender in the thermostat housing do? Isn't that something to do with A/C? Anyone know what measurements i'm likely to get when checking it?
jonny-5 10
Results from pressure testing:Before re-charge: Low side = 5.5 BAR, High side = 6 BARAfter re-charge: Low side = 5 BAR, high side = 7 BARPretty sure it's the compressor at fault now. Any other (less expensive) suggestions?
jonny-5 10
Just replaced the compressor and now the A/C works great - icey cold air, just in time for winter lol.
bungy 2
Glad you got it sorted. Still worthwhile as aircon clears the screen nice and quick.
jonny-5 10
Yeh true, just nice to have everything working too. it smells a bit funky at the moment though, I was getting a headache on the way home! So i've ordered one of those 'a/c bombs' to clear out all the bacteria and get it smelling nice.

jonny-5 10
Think bomb's bit of a nick name for it. It's basically an aerosol can with a locking nozzle. You put your A/C on fully cold, on full power, make sure it's on re-circ, close the windows and doors. Then put the can in the middle of the car somewhere, activate it, then get outta there! Then you just leave it 10 mins of so for the vapours to work there way round. Kills all the bacteria that like to live in the evaporator and makes it smell nice too! Try searching for A/C freshener or something in ebay - they're only a fiver or so
