Southern hill climbing anyone?

Well i've spoken to the head of the tuition side of things and i'll be checking out the facilities 1st hand with a mind to offering up a club day if all things work out well. All sounds very interesting.

The main thing is for a timed event you'll need a race licence which gets the insurance coverage. The club offers a days tuition to get you up and running and then there are events throughout the year at different venues. I'm going to go and have a look and a go with a mind to checking it all out. It is then possible to organise an event solely for the club as it is on private land and it can be tailored to suit. I'll find out more details and have a go to see if it will all work out well. I am more than just a bit excited....

Watch this space....;)

Slightly newer update. I've now arranged to go earlier and will be checking out the facilities on Tuesday afternoon whilst they are running one of their school days. Andy has promised me a passenger ride up the hill in something special. Can't wait.

Here's a taste for hill climbing.

You may recognize the course from the Discovery series "A race car is born" in this in car footage.

I'm off to Gurston tomorrow afternoon to sample the facilities and try to organise a club event.

Spent a few hours at the Gurston site and spoke with the organiser at length. We'd need 25 cars to book out the whole venue purely for our own use and that would give everyone tuition, 8 runs up the hill and lunch. The fewer the cars the more it would cost. At the moment they run 3 events a year with this setup but are allowed 1 more which seems to suit us. There are competitive climbs throughout the year aswell. There is one this coming Sunday where you can spectate.
