Morning all,

On my way home from work on Friday the VR started to overheat and i noticed a water leak on the plastic section of pipe from the top of the radiator to the engine and has a small pipe coming off going to the expansion tank.

It's only a crack but is leaking water.

When i bought the car it some pink sealer or something on their but i have noticed this has dissapeared now.

Will this cause my VR to overheat????

I spoke to Sanburn in Cov on the Saturday and they quoted £15+vat plus £10 for delivery!

Just spoke to Euro Car Parts and they do an original part for £22+vat. Will be here this afternoon - fingers crossed it's the right part.

Bit concerned as VW quoted £62+vat as the plastic section is not available on its own you have to buy the pipes with it!

Where do I start?!

Left work early to go to ECP to pick up the pipe that I ordered however when I got there they ordered the wrong part. They eventually tracked down the part I need after I had to show them on an exploded parts diagram then they tried to charge £70+vat!!! It’s only £62+vat from VW! What a bunch of incompetent *****!

Anyway after a bit of searching last night I found a VR6 breaking on edition 38 and they had the part I needed. £15 for a Gruven Y pipe… bargain! So I went and collected it from Peterborough last night and fitted it.

However… drove to work this morning and the temp had hit 110c!

The fans kicked in so what do I check now?

Have you bleed the system properly?

Turn heater on to full warm, pour in coolant + water, run engine til fan kicks in (make sure heat comes out of heaters), switch off, remove cap WHEN COOL, top up, repeat, check level again.
