Miss-Vw 2
Before I start, I know I should get it on vag-com BUT I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this, or whether its me being a bit paranoid. On my journey to work, there are a couple of dual carraigeways which are always free from traffic Ive noticed that going from 2nd gear into 3rd, it doesnt seem very responsive. 2nd gear still gives some, but particularly 3rd gear is just a bit...well, rubbish really. I will put my foot down, the revs go up but the car picks up the speed slower than usual. Just seems sluggish in general. It is due for a service so Im hoping that might help. Ive also noticed that my revs seems to be bit high, in 5th gear at 85mph, revs are already on about 4 - 4.5k?? Now I know that cant be right. Its almost like the revs are increasing but the car doesnt seem to be responding as you would expect it to. Would this be a timing issue?
shail 0
If your revs are not matching the engine speed, then I would be looking at the clutch. Having timing issues would not produce higher revs for a given speed, as revs for a particular speed are set in stone by the gearing.
VR6Nat 9
a good way to check your revs is that in fourth gear your speed should always be double the revs (without the zeros!! haha) etc.... 1500 revs = 302000 revs = 403000 revs =
Miss-Vw 2
ooh ok thanks, ill check that tonight.
jimmyb 2
if ur just cruising between 35-45mph and put ur foot down in 3rd and its revving up but not really moving on,i would then be 90% sure the clutch is slipping,,,
Miss-Vw 2
Hmm, well I did what Nat suggested and checked the revs in 4th gear and all is fine. It had a brand new clutch kit fitted back in May this year aswell. Ill do some more tests with it lol.
