ronniewolff 0
I've had a mk3 8v Golf GTi for a couple of years and am on the verge of selling it and replacing it with either a Corrado VR6 or a Golf VR6.In Autotrader (Scottish edition) this week the following car is advertised and I would much appreciate any thoughts from VR6 owners as to whether it is a good deal or not. If you have time, ideas as to what to look out for would be appreciated too.OK, the car ..."VW Golf VR6 2.8 M-reg, genuine 65,000 miles. MOT March, tax Jan. Cat 1 total closure alarm, CD player, e/w, e/m, e/sr, twin airbags, original BBS alloys, in superb condition throughout. £2595"The colour looks to be a kind of burgundy/claret.Many thanks folks. vdubgirl 3
Sounds ok :-) Were in the midst of sorting a uyers guide out but seeing we haven't done that yet heres a little advise from me :-)See if the car has service history there is a big and fairly expensive service around the 60 70k mark Engine wise check for any rattles timing chain tensioners are quite expensive to replace. Rust wise mk3's rust on there boot lids round there window edges wheel arches and in the sill inside the door.bar that just do all the usual check that you would do buying any other car.Hope that is of some help I'm sure lots of other people will give there advise as well.Bar that happy VR6 hunting you certainly wont be dissapointed with the drive or that engine sound ;-)
ronniewolff 0
Cheers for that. It's a tasty mileage if the SH is there to back it up, isn't it?When I bought the GTi I had to replace the exhaust and rear calipers straight away and then proceeded to splash £4000 over the past two years just to get it up to scratch. So you can see why I am being so careful!
MrBen 0
I've just got home from picking up my new Golf VR6, after three happy years with a Mk3 GTI! It's definitely a good idea you've got! That deal sounds pretty good if it's in good condition. Have a very good look at it before you drive it, as once you've sat in the driving seat, you won't wanna go home without it!!
ronniewolff 0
Mr Ben ? if your Mk3 GTi was six on a scale of one to 10, what would you say the VR6 is?
vdubgirl 3
Ronnie yeh 65k is a great milage my highline had 106 when I bought it.I also had a mkIII gti 8v before my vr6 and you wouldn't catch me setting foot in a mkIII gti now I've had the taste for a vr6 ;-) You'll certainly enjoy the drive but you do have to be prepared for the fuel costs lol (there not that bad if you drive them steady but erm driving a vr steady well thats easier said than done lol)
MrBen 0
Mr Ben ? if your Mk3 GTi was six on a scale of one to 10' date=' what would you say the VR6 is?[/quote']Currently, I'd put it at about 12 out of 10, and I think my GTI is a fantastic car! It's feels like the same car, but with some mind altering drugs everytime you hit the gas pedal! Currently my new one has no stereo and I'm wondering whether to bother as the noise from the engine is simply amazing. As you can tell, i'm still pretty excited about it! !amazed
