JETTAIII 0
Hi everyonejust wondering if there are any real gains to be had by moving the induction kit to the position in the photo? I have a bit of stainless piping so might give it ago tomorrow. Am I wasting my time? Also is this a wise mod when using the car in the wet?thanks for the help
craggsy 91
Will get colder air going in so yes worth doing in my eyes. Mine is down there.....but it does have a charger bolted onto it...lol
Rikki 2
Yup thats where we HAVE to put it.....never been a problem for me down there and as craggsy says it will give you colder air which is always good!

mat-ryder 2
any probs in real wet weather though?
FishWick 21
I personally wouldn't put it down there unless absolutely necessary, such as when you use an S/C for example. I don't know about other people but mine is a daily and has to go through deep standing water occasionally, and I have had MAF problems from that. Never sucked water into the engine though. You need to drive through a major Ford for that to happen! In terms of a normal aspirated engine, I've done a fair bit of experimentation with filters and intake tract lengths and I don't like how the engine feels with a great bit long pipe like that. Feels slower in the midrange to me. The best setup I've tried to date in terms of all round improvements is a BMC CDA with no cold air pipe on it.
rodney 17
All us FI types have 'em down there... Works for me. Only thing is how low are you... Kerbs are a bad idea dependant upon this answer...
eltel 0
I agree with Kev on this one, Only do it if you have to as it's a daily. Mine is down there because of the 'charger and the car was a daily until this month, I had to plan my route carefully when had heavy rain to avoid flooded roads... Also hit a badger on the A3 one night and the badger stole my last air filter along with half the front spoiler and arch liner....
bungy 2
"The best setup I've tried to date in terms of all round improvements is a BMC CDA with no cold air pipe on it."I'm interested buddy, why did the BMC CDA work better without the cold air feed? I'm just about to fit one on mine and is it worth fitting the cold air feed?
craggsy 91
I never had the cold air pipe on mine.....used to but got cauht down below and wheel ripped it straight out

By putting the cold air pipe on you effectively change the intake pulse tuning slightly. Stealth Racing have dynoed a Golf VR6 with and without the cold air pipe and it makes zero difference in terms of power, but without the pipe throttle response is better :-)
VR6Pete 1,455
I also found that when I had a viper-x thing on an old car, that I am too ashamed to tell you all what it was!!! throttle reponse was crap, ended up sticking a piperx cone filter on in the end again lol
